After two Windows updates, some games appear to be suffering from performance issues. Nvidia has released a driver hotfix that promises to remedy the problem.

Since the penultimate Microsoft Patch Day on October 14, 2025, users have been reporting noticeable performance drops in games, according to Windows Latest. The latest Windows update from November 11 is also said to be causing performance issues in various titles.

Nvidia confirms and delivers hotfix

According to Nvidia, the frame rate issues were triggered by the installation of updates KB5066835 and KB5068861, which were automatically distributed to systems running versions 25H2 or 24H2. Both platforms share the same system kernel, so anyone using the newer Windows builds was practically guaranteed to be affected.

The result was a noticeable drop in frame rates in some games, sometimes accompanied by brief stuttering. A complete list of affected titles does not exist in the Windows Latest report or from Microsoft or Nvidia, but at least Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Counter-Strike 2 are mentioned as examples.

Why are we mentioning Nvidia in connection with a problem with Windows updates?

According to its own statements, it was the GPU manufacturer that took a closer look at the problems together with Microsoft developers. Whether this means that Radeon GPUs were less affected remains questionable.

Regardless, Nvidia has now provided the appropriate hotfix with the latest Geforce driver 581.94 . This should fix the performance issues caused by the October and November updates on Windows 11 24H2/25H2.

Which systems are affected?

The Windows System Overview provides an easy way to check. You can find the build number under Settings → System → Info:

  • From build 26200.6899 (Windows 11 25H2) or
  • From build 26100.6899 (Windows 11 24H2)

If the known performance bug occurs, it should be resolved by the Nvidia driver. As usual, the developers themselves explain that Geforce version 581.94 as a hotfix has not undergone the usual quality control.

Accordingly, you should only install the update if you are actually affected by the problems – otherwise, it is sufficient to wait for the next “official” driver release.
