As part of the Xbox Partner Preview, Remedy Entertainment revealed FBC: Firebreak. This is the first multiplayer game from the Finnish studio. As the abbreviation suggests, the title is set in the Control universe and offers a cooperative PvE shooter experience. At the same time, the typical Remedy fingerprint should be noticeable.

Although the shooter is set in the universe of Control, game director Mike Kayatta emphasizes that this is not a DLC or a sequel “We are actively avoiding the feeling that it is just an add-on to Control FBC: Firebreak is a stand-alone, fully-fledged work.” It is a standalone game that can be enjoyed without prior knowledge of the Control story, but it offers deep connections to the world of the Federal Bureau of Control.

In FBC: Firebreak we take on the role of special forces of the Federal Bureau of Control and face supernatural threats in the infamous “Oldest House”. This is first and foremost an intense co-op experience in which

FBC: Firebreak; a cooperative PvE shooter with a focus on action-packed missions. Communications Director Thomas Puha describes; the game as easily accessible, so that it can be enjoyed at any time without having to invest hours of preparation. Nevertheless, the title offers enough depth to keep fans entertained for a long time.

The “paranormal augmentations” play a special role, acting as powerful weapons that shape gameplay. One highlight from the first gameplay trailer is an exploding garden gnome that can be used as an “ultimate” ability. These unique abilities give the genre a distinct Remedy Entertainment touch and ensure unpredictable turns in combat.

Despite the focus on multiplayer, Remedy Entertainmentdoesn”t want to neglect its narrative tradition.FBC: Firebreak takes place after the events of Control and offers a new way of telling stories from the world of FBC. The plot focuses less on a linear narrative and more on telling individual player experiences. “Multiplayer games should be about not just our story, but the millions of stories that fans experience themselves,” explains Kayatta.

For Remedy Entertainment, known primarily for single-player experiences like Alan Wake and Control , FBC: Firebreak is an exciting challenge. “We”ve wanted to make a PvE multiplayer game for a long time,” says Puha. The studio has set out to make gameplay dynamic and accessible, without the pressure of logging in daily to unlock content. Instead, regular updates and new content should keep the game fresh and the community happy.

With a planned release in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, FBC: Firebreak will be available on Game Pass from day one. More info on Xbox Partner Preview to come over the weekend!
