FromSoftware reports on the future of Elden Ring: Nightreign. And it looks bright.

Elden Ring: Nightreign has not had a smooth start, but it has been very successful nonetheless. More than 3.5 million players have already tried their hand at defeating the Nightlords, and the game is currently ranked fourth among the most played Steam hits, with over 137,000 active users at any given time.

At the same time, the Steam reviews were anything but rosy. Many people criticized the stress factor, technical problems – but also the lack of a duo mode. While the first patch did not include this feature, FromSoftware has now spoken up on X. And with good news:

Duo mode for two players is coming!

The tweet is too short to include a complete roadmap for Nightreign, but it does give us an overview of what to expect in the coming months.

  • The boss fights against the Nightlords are set to be improved in June 2025. However, there is no further information on what this will entail.
  • A duo mode is set to be released later this year, allowing you to hunt the Nightlords in pairs.
  • A first DLC is also scheduled for release by the end of the year, which will expand the existing content.

By the way: Due to an error on the Steam page, it was briefly possible to see what this DLC contains. You can expect new playable characters, but also new bosses at the end of a run. However, this vague description was quickly deleted. Nevertheless, we expect that DLCs will primarily focus on this area, possibly with new area building blocks.

Meanwhile, the Steam reviews for Elden Ring: Nightreign are also recovering. In the past few days, the game has climbed from a balanced rating to a mostly positive one. The user reviews now contain significantly more voices that accept and appreciate Nightreign for what it is, rather than punishing it for all the things it doesn’t want to be.

Nevertheless, FromSoftware also seems to recognize that the balance of the roguelite is not quite right yet: The latest major patch, for example, gives solo players additional respawns and rewards so that they can celebrate more frequent successes in single-player mode.
