As a fan of the fantasy universe, Harbour is also thinking about how best to bring it to the big screen.
Doomsday star David Harbour, aka Red Guardian, is a huge fan of World of Warcraft.The MMORPG even ruined his entire year in 2005, because the then-30-year-old actor was, by his own account,“totally addicted to the video game”and did nothing but immerse himself in the world created by developer Blizzard Entertainment.
While other nerds like Henry Cavill simply take matters into their own hands when it comes to adapting their favorite universe to the big screen, Harbour reflects in an interview with Varietyon this,how he would envision an adaptation.

The now 51-year-old Stranger Things actor hasnothing but praise for World of Warcraftand immediately compares it to the historical epic The Odyssey—no, to the entire body of Greek mythology—
I’ve always thought that the Warcraft universe is way underutilized. It’s just as good as Greek mythology, just as good as *The Odyssey*. Come on, Chris Nolan—I want to see a Chris Nolan version of *World of Warcraft*.
Even though Harbour makes this statement more in jest and probably doesn’t expect a Nolan film adaptation of World of Warcraft to be knocking on our door anytime soon, the chances aren’t exactly zero.
So far, Christopher Nolan hasn’t adapted a single video game for the big screen, but who knows what the future holds. And maybe the director does a little Googling of his own sometimes and has now been inspired by Harbour to come up with a new idea.
The first and only film adaptation to date
WithWarcraft: The Beginningby director Duncan Jones, there was already a film adaptation in 2016 that was based on the plot ofWarcraft: Orcs & Humans(1994). With an estimated budget of $160 million, the fantasy film grossed $439.05 million at the box office, but Universal ultimately still lost $15 million (viaIndieWire).
Thecritics’ and audience reviews could hardly be further apart, at 29 and 76 percent, respectively. In the movie database IMDb, “Warcraft: The Beginning scores 6.7 out of 10 stars.
What else does David Harbour play?Role-playing games are right up the actor’s alley. He’s currently spending his free time in the world of Path of Exile 2, because he “likes games where you can really get excited about the numbers and damage values.” Well, he’s definitely in the right place here!
