The new continent in the current campaign is still a big mystery for many fans. That’s why they are getting creative themselves.
Anyone who reads a lot of fantasy books knows that nothing works without a world map! Although such representations of continents or countries are not absolutely necessary to enjoy the story, they are extremely helpful. Otherwise, it’s all too easy to lose your bearings.
This is probably how many fans of Critical Role feel right now, who are a little confused that there is still no world map of the new game world Aramán. The fourth campaign has been running since October, but fans still have to imagine where exactly the cities and kingdoms are located in relation to each other based on the descriptions provided by Dungeon Master Brennen Lee Mulligan.
This is particularly tricky because the two groups of heroes that have been played so far – the Seekers and the Soldiers – travel to very different places in the world.
But as is so often the case, fans are not deterred from getting creative themselves.
This is how fans imagine the world
Viewers are certainly a little spoiled in this regard, because so far, the major campaigns of the popular D&D streamers have all been set in the same world called Exandria. But even here, there were different continents such as Tal Dorei, Wildemount, and Marquet—it never took long before the then DM Matt Mercer pulled out a map that viewers could use to orient themselves a little.
This has not been the case for the world of Aramán so far; Brennen has not even given fans an overview of the continent of Pasitar, which is currently being played. However, based on his rough descriptions within the episodes, fans have been able to try their hand at creating a map themselves.
Among them is the user dontwinkatme, who has already drawn Pasitar in great detail and has been able to map many of the places the heroes have visited so far:

However, the map is also already two months old. As a result, many locations that were only visited during the search party’s journey are still missing from the current map. The party turned east from Dol Makjar and followed the Dvalmar Pass through the Kavrosi Mountains to Riesengürtle. This location is therefore not yet marked on the map above.
There is a map
But why are fans still waiting for an official map? According to Brennen Lee Mulligan, a map of his world does exist, but no professional version has been produced yet. Supposedly, every player has one in their files, but that doesn’t stop Sam Riegel, at least, from being constantly confused about where they are.
Well, Brennan has this map, as he explains in an episode of Tale Gate. According to Sam Riegel, however, this depiction is “too poor and too small.” Of course, he means this mainly as a joke – but it doesn’t change the fact that there is still no presentable version of the new fantasy world.
But knowing the fans of Critical Role, Brennen would only have to post his “poorly made” pencil map in a forum and within a few days, passionate viewers would have conjured up a glossy world map.
