His son can now swing through Manhattan as Spiderman for Christmas after all.

Sometimes you can find real treasures at flea markets or second-hand stores. This is also shown by a recent case in which a lucky guy happened to discover a used PS4 on a shelf – for a mere $5.

Could it be a fake? As with most Reddit posts, this cannot be ruled out entirely in this case either. However, the Reddit user has been registered there since June 2018 and is active in various communities. The post history also gives us no reason to doubt the truth of the story.

This is what happened: A father has probably made the gaming bargain of his life. While browsing through a thrift store, he noticed an inconspicuous black box on one of the shelves.

On closer inspection, he could finally make out the PS4 logo. The special thing about it: the sticker showed a price of only $4.99.

Without hesitation, he took the console off the shelf and made his way to the checkout, where he was able to save an additional dollar thanks to a coupon. In the end, he only paid $4.34 (including tax) for the PS4 (Slim) – but is it functional?

The console came without any accessories or cables.Fortunately, he found a suitable power cable at home and borrowed a controller from a friend.

And lo and behold, the PS4 works So far, no problems have occurred, everything is running smoothly.

This bargain came in very handy for the father, as his son wanted a PS5 for Spider-Man. At least he can play the PS4 version.

Is a used PS4 still worth it?

If you find a good deal on a used PS4, then it can be well worth it. The PS4 has a huge library of games and newer titles are even coming out for the console.

The prices for used ones are between 60 and about 150 euros. Thanks to the built-in drive, you can also get a bargain on used games.

However, be aware that the PS4 has very slow loading times by today’s standards because it still uses a mechanical hard drive. You can speed this up a bit by replacing the internal HDD with a SATA-II SSD in 2.5-inch format. Alternatively, you can also install games on an external SSD.

If you are looking for a home console, it might be worth considering a used Xbox Series S, as long as you can do without physical games and Sony exclusives. The smaller Xbox also gets the latest releases, and you benefit from particularly fast loading times.
