Are your companions constantly dying? Are quests blocked? The massive update 1.0.5.0 for The Outer Worlds 2 stabilizes the AI and fixes the most serious bugs. We have all the patch notes.
With The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian Entertainment delivered a new sci-fi role-playing game at the end of October that shines with playful freedom and build diversity. Despite high ratings from the trade press, however, even the latest game from the RPG pros was not spared from minor and major technical glitches.
Following a hotfix, the first major update for The Outer Worlds 2 is now available in version 1.0.5.0, which is a huge beast with over 360 fixes and improvements. The patch notes alone, starting on page 2 of this announcement, are over 30,000 characters long!
With a whopping 13 gigabytes download size, version 1.0.5.0 aims to smooth out the rough edges that have spoiled the otherwise very enjoyable role-playing experience for some:
Fans complain, Obsidian fixes
A large part of the changes are responses to bugs reported directly by the community. Gone are the days when quest markers disappeared from your HUD like ghosts just because an inactive target was updated in the background.
Particularly pleasing for those who don’t want to tackle the adventure alone is the comprehensive overhaul of the companion AI and balance.
Your crew members are less likely to go down under fire, and they can now withstand more damage, especially on the higher difficulty levels.

But the story flow has also been massively reworked:
- Quest blockers: Numerous cases in which story missions—including central quests—could not be updated correctly due to a specific sequence of actions or saving at inappropriate moments have now been fixed.
- Character interaction: Companions such as Inez and Tristan now behave more logically. The exclamation marks that indicate available dialogue no longer remain stuck forever, and NPCs no longer appear in inappropriate locations (such as the pool in the greenhouse) during conversations. Conversations with Marshal Corbin have also been fixed so that he is no longer referenced as alive if you have already sent him to the afterlife.
Apart from the role-playing mechanics, technical stability was an important focus for Obsidian. Obsidian has eliminated several crash causes, such as when changing areas with Nvidia Frame Generation (DLSS-FG) enabled. Issues related to ray tracing and general mass NPC crashes have also been addressed.
In addition, patch 1.0.5.0 for The Outer Worlds 2 is intended to eliminate numerous visual and functional flaws, which together significantly improve the immersion experience:
- Graphical corrections: Unsightly, visually stretched textures have been removed and the placement of vegetation has been corrected. Grass moved by the wind no longer flickers unattractively in the distance.
- Lighting and shadows: Lighting changes when entering or leaving buildings have been improved, as has the quality of shadows in Horizon Point Station. The flashlight has been optimized in third-person view.
- Controls and UI: PC players can now turn off mouse smoothing and acceleration if they experience lag. Loading screens now scale correctly on high-resolution monitors, and the display of HDR settings and the translation of cosmetic item terms have also been updated.
For anyone who had put The Outer Worlds 2 on hold due to mission blockers, balancing issues, or technical glitches, this 13-gigabyte patch is now a good reason to return to the wacky world of sci-fi capitalism.
