EA has unveiled the new name for its popular game series, promising “the future of interactive football”. FIFA, however, apparently sees it differently.
EA and the FIFA series, this combination seemed to have merged into an inseparable unit over the years. New spin-offs appeared annually and EA’s FIFA games were the first port of call for virtual grass sports for numerous fans.
But suddenly the marriage began to crack as FIFA looked around for other partners. The publisher reacted by first extending the important contract with the players’ association FIFPRO and then publicly calling the FIFA brand an obstacle.
Now the divorce is final. EA has unveiled the new name and set the course for the future. In the following lines you can read about the qualities that will distinguish EA Sports FC in the future.

The future of interactive football
EA writes in its official announcement that this move is the beginning of a new era. From next year, the new name will be used. Furthermore, they have more than 300 licence partners in order to be able to represent as many real players and clubs in the game as possible.
What can fans of the cultivated ball sport look forward to in the future? If EA has its way, it wants to continue to offer all previous content, i.e. leagues, tournaments, clubs and players. This also includes modes like Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs and VOLTA Football. Apparently, thanks to the contracts signed, exclusive teams and leagues will continue to be under one’s wing in the future.

have already announced their support for EA Sports FC from 2023, including Real Madrid, the FC Liverpool, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.

Fans don’t have to worry about the internationally important leagues either. Regardless of whether it’s the Premier League, the Bundesliga, La Liga or UEFA tournaments – EA has already reached a contractual agreement with all parties.
They even thank their former partner FIFA indirectly by emphasising that this year they will deliver the most comprehensive football game of all time together one last time.
Finally, the focus is once again on their ambitious plans with the new naming:
“We are incredibly excited to be shaping the future of football with you all and look forward to sharing more details about EA SPORTS FC in the summer of 2023. The future of the sport is bright and promising, with football enthusiasm reaching every corner of the world. Football has been a part of EA SPORTS for nearly 30 years – and today we’re making sure it stays that way for decades to come ”
New competition is already on the way. In a first trailer, the title UFL already shows with which qualities they want to woo away fans into their own camp:

And what does FIFA say? FIFA is unimpressed by EA’s new plans and has published its own statement. Here, too, they apparently see the separation as an opportunity for something new and proudly point to the new partnerships they have entered into with third-party studios and publishers.
This should result in greater choice for football and gaming fans. Unsurprisingly, you will only be able to replay the prestigious World Cup in FIFA-sanctioned titles in the future.

Man is already planning a major competitor. Together with leading game publishers, media companies and investors, it said it was currently in talks to develop a major EA Sports FC competitor for 2024.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino couldn’t resist a little tease, putting the new situation like this:
“I can assure you that only the authentic, realistic game bearing the FIFA name will be the best choice for players and football fans. […] The FIFA name is the only global, original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25 and FIFA 26 and so on – the constant is the FIFA name and it will last forever and remain THE BEST [sic!] “.
