According to a well-known leaker, Activision is planning a change to the Battle Pass system for Black Ops 7. Behind the paywall, there will be much more than just cosmetic items.

So far, there is no official information about Call of Duty for 2025, but there are plenty of rumors. According to a leak from 2024, however, it will be another installment in the Black Ops series.

This is also the assumption of the well-known leaker TheGhostOfHope, who refers to the game as Black Ops 7 in his latest revelation. However, the new details do not concern the game itself, but rather an allegedly planned change in monetization.

More content behind the paywall

According to the leaker, Black Ops 7 will have more time-limited modsi with unique rewards and special game mechanics. However, since Activision considers these to be “higher value,” they will not be available for free.

The new limited-time modes (LTMs) are not available for free to all players as before, but require the purchase of the Battle Pass.

Currently, LTMs are often associated with special crossover events, i.e. brand collaborations, and are available to all purchasers of the current Call of Duty game. If the leak is correct, players will be forced to purchase a Battle Pass in the future if they want to play these modes.

Whether this change to the Battle Pass system is actually planned, just an idea the developers have been playing with, or not true at all, cannot be said at this time.

Players are less than enthusiastic

The post on X by Hope has been met with widespread disapproval. SoloBenecerraf writes: “So basically, CoD is becoming a $70, maybe $80 game with a subscription model. Isn’t that like that episode of Black Mirror?”

Kurt2o7 speculates: “Because nobody wants to buy their crappy Battle Pass, they want to force one on us now. Nah, I don’t need it.”

The leaker does not reveal whether “higher quality” also means higher price. So it remains to be seen whether the price of the Battle Pass will go up with additional content. With the aforementioned system, Activision would be putting playable content behind a paywall, not just cosmetic items, which are also time-limited, and that in a game sold at full price.
