“Battlefield is sitting on a gold mine” – fans believe BF6 could have solved its map problem long ago and are frustrated

Since the release of Battlefield 6, many fans have been calling for more large maps. Even Season 1 failed to satisfactorily address this shortcoming, but for many, the solution is very close at hand.

If you ask fans what the biggest problem with Battlefield 6 is, the maps will probably be one of the most common answers. The map selection was a point of contention even before the release, and that hasn’t changed to this day. Many players miss a larger selection of expansive maps for game modes such as Conquest or Escalation.

So what is the solution to this problem? Do we have to wait for the developers to deliver enough seasonal maps over the next few months and years? For many fans, the answer is much closer at hand.

A treasure buried under problems

Actually, the desired new maps already exist, argue players. They hide in Battlefield Portal: Fans are constantly creating their own maps here, whether they’re excerpts from the Battle Royale map, remakes of classic Battlefield maps, or completely new creations. So  says streamer EndersBattlefield is sitting on a gold mine of community maps, but nobody is playing them. The unrealized potential is enormous.

One of the latest fan creations is the Hydro Electric Dam map, which reuses parts of a campaign mission for a Rush map. Here’s a little preview of the map:

So what’s the problem? For fans, the answer is clear: Battlefield 6 fails to make this community-created map available to a broad player base. No one plays it because hardly anyone knows it even exists. Community content is not visible in the main menu and has to be dug up in the confusing menus.

To find the map shown above, for example, we have to navigate to Community in the main menu and then search for it manually, which only works reliably with the correct code (ZEMYF). Of course, this does not result in full servers.

In addition, the experience points earned on portal maps have been greatly reduced in order to get rid of XP farms. So there is no real progress in terms of unlocks and Battle Pass here either. Many fans are frustrated by this, but they also have suggestions for improvement:

Why isn’t there a playlist with community highlights in the main menu that gives, say, 80 percent experience points for levels and weapons?

As Jackfrags suggested: Why not add one or two Portal maps (as official maps) to each season? Seems like a good suggestion to me.

There also needs to be an incentive for people to try Portal. There should be events where you get double experience points or special rewards for playing and creating maps.

So there are plenty of ideas, but it’s unclear what Battlefield 6 still wants to improve on Portal and whether any major changes are planned at all. In the latest community update from December 19, 2025, the developers explain that the optimization of core gameplay, balancing, and user-friendliness for all game modes is a priority. They also confirm that the Little Bird combat helicopter will return, which had already been the subject of a leak.
