There will officially be a test run for Battlefield 6, and it’s set to start soon.

EA and developer Dice wanted to reveal more about Battlefield 6 this summer, and it seems that it won’t be long now. What’s more, fans may soon be able to take part in an open beta, which will even let players choose whether to use one of the most talked-about features or not.

Update: The first trailer for Battlefield 6 has now been announced. Find out more in our news article:

Weapon Lock: Players have the choice

In a post on the official Battlefield X channel, the developers announced that the planned open beta will feature playlists offering both class-specific and completely freely selectable weapons.

This is Dice’s response to fierce opposition from the community, which is largely against the inclusion of the feature from Battlefield 2042. Many players prefer that each class can only use certain weapons.

In the open beta, players can choose between the two options, allowing both the community and Dice to test what works best in the new Battlefield.

Classes get signature weapons

In a previous blog post, Dice introduced so-called signature weapons for each class. At the time of this announcement, however, there was no mention of the two playlist variants.

Weapon bonuses for each class:

  • Assault
    • Signature weapon: Assault rifles
    • Bonuses: Faster transition from sprinting to shooting. Faster weapon switching from assault rifles to other weapons.
  • Engineer
    • Signature weapon: Submachine guns
    • Bonuses: More control when firing from the hip with submachine guns.
  • Support
    • Signature weapon: Light machine guns
    • Bonuses: No penalty to sprint speed when using light machine guns.
  • Recon
    • Signature weapon: Sniper rifles
    • Bonuses: Less movement when using telescopic sights. Improved ability to hold your breath. Increased fire rate with sniper rifles.

Speculation about the beta launch

There is no official schedule for the beta yet. However, attentive Reddit users have found a beta build for BF 6 in the EA app, which according to API data will go live on August 4.

This does not necessarily mean that the open beta will start, but it is an indication that Dice is preparing everything for the upcoming test run. In addition, references to an early access to the beta have been found, so pre-orders could start soon.

According to this, the official reveal of Battlefield 6 should also be imminent. According to a report by Insider Gaming,, fans can expect a Call of Duty Next-style event on July 31. The only confirmed information at this time is that there will be an open beta, that it will feature different playlists with free weapon selection and class-specific weapons, and that more information will follow shortly. All details about the possible beta launch and the upcoming reveal are unofficial and based on leaks and speculation.
