In February 2027, Bungie will begin production on the reintroduction of all Destiny 2 content, including the Celebration event, Destiny Legacy, and the return of the Menagerie.

In its October Community Update, Bungie presented a concrete timeline for the return of the outsourced Destiny 2 content: according to the official post, production is set to begin in February 2027. No release date has been set; Bungie estimates it will take about twelve months of work, meaning the content could arrive in 2028 at the earliest.

All Campaigns, Raids, and Locations Are Returning

The first step of the plan is what’s known as “unvaulting”: Bungie intends to bring all Destiny 2 content back into the live game, including campaigns, DLC stories, raids, and locations. With this move, the studio is rolling back the controversial Destiny Content Vault system, which had removed older content from the live game in recent years. According to Bungie, work is currently in pre-production.

In the update, Bungie explains that the series’ epic journey began over a decade ago and that the entire experience must be made available to players wherever they play today.

Josh Dean and studio head Poria Torkan explained in the update that they first want to retell the entire history of the series before working on sequels or spin-offs. Bungie had announced in September 2026 that it would resume work on the Destiny series after the studio had previously canceled the planned “Shattered Cycle” expansion and announced the end of support for Destiny 2 following a final June update. Bungie is now also hiring staff for Destiny 2 again. Most recently, the studio responded to player feedback during the Shooter Marathon and expanded the Battle Pass there.

Celebration Event, Destiny Legacy, and Menagerie

In addition to the return of the Menagerie, the update announces two other components: an event called “Destiny 2 Celebration,” designed to celebrate the game beyond the final Monument of Triumph update, and an update titled “Destiny Legacy.” Bungie hasn’t revealed what the latter will include. Additionally, the Menagerie is officially returning to the game with new rewards; the activity originated from the 2019 Season of Opulence.

In February 2027, Bungie also plans to introduce a new progress bar, which is expected to include a release target and updated milestones.
