Before the servers go offline, Riot Games has surprisingly revealed Sett as another brawler alongside Samira in the final trailer for the fighting game.
Riot Games has released a final gameplay trailer for 2XKO. The fighting game is nearing the end of its active development. But the game is going out with a bang: Along with the last major update, Riot surprisingly unveiled a secret character.
2XKO goes out with a bang: Sett is now in the fight
The final update will be released on October 27. It had already been confirmed that Samira would be joining as the 16th playable character. The trailer now shows her moveset in action. However, she shares the spotlight with Sett, whom fans have long been hoping for.
Sett is a powerful brawler. In the trailer, he lands heavy blows and relies on powerful grabs. However, his abilities in 2XKO differ from his League of Legends kit in one key way: a power-up state enhances many of his special attacks and gives them new, dangerous properties. One of his super moves also shows him grabbing both enemy characters at the same time and slamming them into each other—a nice homage to his MOBA origins.
Reactions to the trailer have been mixed. Alongside great anticipation, there’s also understandable sadness. The top comment on YouTube from user il3967 sums it up: “It’s like Spider-Man visiting a sick child in the hospital.”
2XKO had been in development at Riot Games for a long time and launched earlier this year to great hype in the fighting game community. But shortly after its release, bad news followed: The development team faced a wave of layoffs, and shortly thereafter, 2XKO was officially shut down. Player numbers simply weren’t high enough to justify the costs of continued support after the first season.
It’s a shame, because the game has real merit. At least it isn’t disappearing completely from the scene, as is the case with many other failed live-service titles. The game will remain playable for the foreseeable future. The microtransaction store is being removed and replaced with an optional one-time purchase that unlocks almost all cosmetic items—except for a promotional avatar outfit from Chipotle. So if you’re looking forward to Sett, you’ll still be able to experiment with him extensively at the end of the month.
