Final Fantasy 7 Revelation could take up a lot of storage space. Director Naoki Hamaguchi explains why even the disc version requires an additional download.
If you want to free up space on your SSD in preparation for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, you might as well be a little more generous when clearing out files. The final installment of the remake trilogy is likely to be quite a heavyweight: Director Naoki Hamaguchi currently estimates a file size of around 200 GB.
This figure isn’t set in stone yet. In the interview with VGC, Hamaguchi emphasizes that the game is still in development and the final size may therefore still change. Currently, however, the team expects Revelation to take up approximately 200 GB.
Even buyers of the disc version will need to download
This would mean Revelation once again significantly exceeds its predecessor. Depending on the platform, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth already requires a fair amount of storage space: 145.2 GB for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, 155 GB on PC, and 91 GB on Xbox.
For Revelation, the space on the physical discs is apparently no longer sufficient. Square Enix had already confirmed that all physical versions will require an additional download. According to Hamaguchi, the team didn’t want to cut back on the game’s content just to make everything fit on the discs.
Square Enix didn’t want to completely do away with a physical version, however. Especially given the uncertain future of traditional game discs, it was important to the team to continue offering Revelation as a physical product.
Vincent and Sephiroth Are Getting Their Own DLCs
And the main game isn’t the end of the story. Two additional stories are planned for *Final Fantasy 7 Revelation*, which are intended to shed more light on Vincent Valentine and Sephiroth. Hamaguchi compares them to the “Episode Intermission” from *Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade*, which gave Yuffie her own story separate from the main game.
However, Hamaguchi isn’t ready to reveal yet whether the new episodes are set before, during, or after the events of *Revelation*. The only thing that’s clear is that they’re intended to delve deeper into these two characters. The actual story of the remake trilogy, on the other hand, is set to be concluded in the main game itself and won’t be wrapped up by later DLCs.
