Things have been a bit quiet lately around the popular city-building strategy and political simulation game Tropico 7, but now El Presidente is back with fresh news from gamescom. The developers at Gaming Minds Studios and publisher Kalypso Media have released their first gameplay trailer for Tropico 7.
The two-and-a-half-minute video offers a brief first look—in typical El Prez style—at the new “Political Matrix,” executive decrees, council meetings, improved city-building, and new terraforming options. Along the way, El Presidente also reveals the release date: Tropico 7 will be released on January 28, 2027, for PC (Steam, Epic Games), Xbox on PC (via Game Pass), Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

In Tropico 7, you once again take on the role of El Presidente to lead your nation to new heights alongside your loyal right-hand man, Penultimo, in an ongoing campaign spanning five maps—all while locked in a constant struggle with your new adversary, Victoria Guerra. You’ll experience the largest scope in the series’ history: You’ll rule over vast archipelagos featuring the most massive islands the franchise has ever seen, and you can expand your power across 10 additional scenarios, over 20 sandbox maps, and countless procedurally generated worlds.
An absolute highlight is the new terraforming feature, which puts truly god-like tools in your hands to literally move mountains, create beaches, or build entire islands from scratch. City-building also becomes more in-depth, as you must now strategically place your buildings to benefit from synergies that boost your citizens’ efficiency and satisfaction. Unused areas can then be beautified with fully customizable parks.
To remain in power permanently, politics requires all your dictatorial finesse. You can now gather the various factions in a new council right inside your palace to wring profitable deals out of them face-to-face or nip their hopes in the bud. Your political toolkit includes tried-and-true methods such as election rigging, rousing speeches, ideologically driven decrees, and, of course, the skillful “relocation” of foreign Wonders of the World to your own island kingdom.
Should words alone ever prove insufficient, the completely revamped military system gives you significantly more direct control over your units, allowing you to effectively put troublesome rebels or enemy invaders in their place. The experience is rounded out by expanded customization options that let you flaunt your wealth and design the appearance of your palace and El Presidente entirely according to your own creative vision.
