PUBG: Ded.Net was announced during the ONL at gamescom and surprised everyone with its quirky setting.
When we sat down together yesterday during the ONL to round up the most important announcements for you, there was (at least) one trailer that left us all looking confused.
When the announcement video forPUBG Ded.Netplayed, at first no one could really tell what kind of game it was supposed to be—until the title appeared at the end. A day later, it turns out we’re not alone in our confusion.
“For a second, I thought this was a COD trailer.”
Before we take a look at the community’s reactions, why not check out the trailer for yourself first and share your thoughts with us in the comments:
The originalPUBGlaunched a few years ago with a somewhat austere, military setting, which has since been softened somewhat by a variety of skins, among other things. Ded.Net, however, is now raising the bar even higher and turning the volume all the way up.The new shooter features a ’90s aesthetic, grunge, and body horror.
The community’s initial reactions have been mixed. Some have already been able to try out Ded.Net in the playtest and are looking forward to the new PUBG, as can be seen in the comments on theDednet YouTube channel. If you’re curious, you can currentlyIGN trailer, however, a different picture emerges. Here, the comments are mostly from people who hadn’t heard of the game before and are reacting to the trailer for the first time. Ded.Net is compared here to other franchises, such as the horror film series *The Purge* and the video game series *Watch Dogs*. YouTube user user-mi7nw5kt4w writes:“For a second, I thought I was watching a COD trailer, lol”—presumably a reference to the over-the-top skins.
Reactions on X are also subdued. Some feel put off by the over-the-top aspects of Ded.Netdon’t appeal to themand FableDPSasks: “What kind of shooter genre is this supposed to be?”Well then, let’s see if we can find an answer to that.
What genre is PUBG Ded.Net?
Unlike PUBG, Ded.Net isn’t primarily intended to be a battle royale, but rather a multiplayer first-person shooter with roguelite elements. So you can expect a kind of extraction shooter where each playthrough contributes to your meta-progression. This way, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your own strategy.
The game takes place in the world of Cascadia, which consists of several locations: the wilderness, a mountainous landscape, a cult church, a small town, and a sort of indoor playground. It’s not yet clear exactly which modes will be available, and we’ll have to wait a bit longer for a release date.
