The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta starts this weekend. Here’s an overview of all the key info on the launch, pre-load, playable maps and modes, as well as all the rewards.
It’s that time again: Call of Duty is back with the Modern Warfare 4 beta. The beta event runs over two weekends, during which you can try out new maps, modes, and even the first campaign mission.

CoD: Modern Warfare 4 Beta – Dates & Times
The beta phase forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 4is split into two weekends. The first weekend is reserved for Early Access users, while the second weekend is an open beta available to all players for free.

Beta Weekend 1 (Early Access)
- Start: Friday, August 21, at 8:00 p.m.
- End: Tuesday, August 25, at 8:00 p.m.

Beta Weekend 2 (Open Beta)
- Start: Friday, August 28, at 7:00 p.m.
- End: Tuesday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m.
- Platforms:PC (Steam, Battle.net), PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2
Right before the beta launches on August 21, 2026, the Call of Duty: NEXT event will take place at 6:00 p.m. German time. There, the developers will share new information and live gameplay before the servers open promptly at 8:00 p.m.
Modern Warfare 4 Beta – Preload Dates
To make sure you can jump right in when the beta starts and don’t have to spend forever downloading, preloads are available for both weekends.
- Weekend 1 Preload:Starting Thursday, August 20, 2026 (6:00 PM)
- Weekend 2 Preload:Starting Thursday, August 27, 2026 (6:00 PM)
Important information about the download:
- The Modern Warfare 4 beta isnot part of the CoD launcher. This means you’ll need to download and launch the beta separately from your store.
- If you already participated in the first beta weekend, you do not need to download the beta again for the second weekend, and your game progress will carry over.
Beta Codes – Here’s How to Get Early Access Keys
To participate in the first beta weekend (August 21–25), you’ll need Early Access. There are currentlythree ways to get it:
- Pre-order:Anyone who pre-orders Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 digitally (or from participating retailers) will automatically receive access to the first beta.
- Discord Nitro:Anyone with an active Discord Nitro subscription can get a beta code even without a pre-order. To do so, go to Discordand navigate to:Nitro→Homeand claim the beta key under Nitro Rewards.
- Twitch Drops & Giveaways:During the CoD NEXT event, keys and beta access will be distributed via Twitch Drops. Of course, you’ll need a bit of luck to snag a code.
Important:The codes can only be redeemed via theofficial Call of Duty website. Beta keys are not tied to a specific platform. You can select your platform when redeeming the code on the website.
Remember that thesecond beta weekendis open to all players, and you can participateeven without a code.

As part of the MW4 beta, you cantry out new maps and fresh game modes. Additionally, thefirst campaign missionis playable. Keep in mind that the maps and modes vary slightly depending on the weekend:

If you head into battle during the two beta weekends, you can alsoearn 8 exclusive rewards. These are cosmetic items that you can carry over directly to the full version later. However, other game and weapon progress from the beta willnotbe carried over to the main game.

Important: Keep the level cap in mind!

So if you want to claim all the rewards, you’ll need to reach Level 30 during the second beta weekend.
On top of that, there will once again be secret challenges and additional Twitch drops to provide you with extra rewards during the beta event.
