The developers are significantly enhancing the multiplayer mode of the hit survival game. In addition to voice chat features and emotes, the update now includes throwable markers and a large charitable donation.
The second Early Access update for Unknown Worlds’ open-world survival crafting game Subnautica 2 is here.
Among other things, the new version expands the game’s co-op mode with features designed to improve communication and teamwork.
Proximity Voice Chat and Enhanced Communication
This includes a proximity voice chat, which is described as the centerpiece of the update. Teammates nearby sound louder and are easier to locate, while voices naturally become quieter as players move away from one another.
A new emote system also allows you to communicate without saying a word. At the same time, you can directly access a teammate’s inventory to transfer resources. There are also throwable locator beacons, a signaling system, and features to make building outposts easier.
New Resuscitation System and Donation to The Ocean Cleanup
Unknown Worlds is also introducing a new revival system: “When a player’s health drops to zero, they enter a ‘Downed’ state instead of dying immediately, and can continue exploring as long as a teammate revives them within a limited time window,” the studio says. “This change increases the tension of surviving in the deep sea while also making teamwork more important.”
Last but not least, the development studio announced that, with the release of the update, it will donate $100,000 to The Ocean Cleanup, an organization dedicated to cleaning up the oceans. A portion of the proceeds from the original Subnautica was already donated to The Ocean Cleanup on World Environment Day 2019, and the studio has continued to support marine conservation initiatives ever since.
