Battlefield 6 is bringing back a legendary map, but I’m especially looking forward to an awesome game mode

In the second part of Season 4, Battlefield 6 is bringing back Wake Island as a remaster, but I’m even more excited about one of my favorite game modes, which I last played in Battlefield 4.

Sometimes I think back nostalgically toBattlefield 4, the shooter that finally turned me into a fan of the series. That’s exactly the kind of multiplayer shooter I’d always wanted—with a modern military setting, huge maps, vehicles, and a massive selection of weapons.Unfortunately, Battlefield 6couldn’t quite live up to those expectations in every respect, even though it’s getting better and better thanks to new maps.

Season 4 is now taking a big step forward with water-based maps. I’ve already had the chance to try out Wake Island, the second part of the season, andI was particularly excited by a new game modethat was last seen in—you guessed it—Battlefield 4!

A Different Kind of Conquest

Part 2 of Season 4 is set to release on August 18, 2026; new content is usually playable by mid-morning. Included is not only what I consider a successful remake of Wake Island (be sure to give it a try!), but also the Carrier Strike game mode. This is a reimagining of Carrier Assault from *Battlefield 4*, which in turn was modeled after the Titan mode from *Battlefield 2142*.

As you can see, the game mode has a long history, and the idea itself is simple. In Battlefield 6, each side has an aircraft carrier as its headquarters, the goal is to destroy the opposing side’s carrier. To do this, we must hold a majority of five capture points, from which missiles are fired at the enemy carrier at regular intervals.

For someone who tends to avoid Breakthrough, especially in Battlefield 6, Carrier Strikeis a great change of pace from the daily grind of Conquest: In the first phase, the mode still plays like classic Conquest, but it does away with the many flags that are usually fought over on Tsuru Reef. The map is still huge, but it’s much more relaxed to focus on holding just three points instead of five.

In the second phase, as a contrast to All-Out Warfare, there are intense infantry firefights aboard the aircraft carrier. But if I’m still sitting in my tank and successfully fighting on land, I can simply continue to focus on the capture points, or use my guns to directly fire on the enemy carrier.

The battles for the carrier itself feel more meaningful and dramatic than in a normal capture match, thanks to the specific objective (we’re not just constantly swapping control of a few letters). It feels completely different to fight your way through the carrier’s lower deck with your team’s support, plant a bomb, and finally watch the whole thing go up in flames.

Especially in times when game modes are simply disappearing from Battlefield 6’s search function, I’m very happy that a new mode—and such a great one at that—is being added. Now I just hope that DICE doesn’t let Carrier Strike disappear again and makes it a permanent mode. Hopefully, by the time the server browser arrives in Season 5, I’ll be able to blow up many more aircraft carriers.
