Information on The Elder Scrolls 6 has been extremely scarce so far. So it’s no wonder the community is in an uproar whenever the Xbox head says even a single sentence about the RPG.

How big isThe Elder Scrolls 6? Where is The Elder Scrolls 6 set? When will The Elder Scrolls 6 be released? There are still no clear answers to any of these questions, because Bethesda has shown only a single teaser for the RPG and then hasn’t said a word about the Skyrim sequel for years. Well, at least we know from Todd Howard that itmore trees than in Skyrim.

But now Xbox head Asha Sharma has finally provided a new clue—specifically regarding the question: What is The Elder Scrolls 6 called? After all, every game in the series has a suffix, like Morrowind or Skyrim. Andnow it’s clear: The next title is ********.

A Carefully Placed Note

The source of all this excitement is a post by Sharma on X. In it, the Xbox CEO reveals that she played The Elder Scrolls 6 during a visit to Bethesda Game Studios:

It’s no surprise, of course, that Sharma is singing the game’s praises—after all, her statement is primarily about marketing. The exciting part, of course, is the asterisks that stand in for the as-yet-unknown title suffix. There are eight asterisks in both Sharma’s post and Bethesda’s response. And that is almost certainly an indication, that the unknown part of the game’s title consists of eight letters.

OnReddit,Twitterand other platforms, fans naturally jumped right in after the post and began discussing what the eight asterisks might represent. Many of the suggested names stem from the fact that many fans have been convinced for years that *The Elder Scrolls 6* will be set in the regions of Hammerfell and High Rock. Here are a few title candidates that keep popping up:

  • Sentinel:One of the largest and most important cities in Hammerfell bears this name; it’s also considered theguardian of Iliac Bay, which lies between Hammerfell and High Rock. Incidentally, this name would also be a good fit forLegendary Elder Scrolls writer Michael Kirkbride on board.
  • High Rock:If spaces aren’t counted as asterisks, the region around Iliac Bay could also be a possible title for The Elder Scrolls 6. Hammerfell is out of the running, butIliac Baywould also be a possibility in this case
  • Dominion:Even in Skyrim, we fought not only against the dragons but also against theAldmeri Dominion, the powerful realm of the High Elves. The Elder Scrolls 6 could focus on the conflict between the human Empire and the elves.
  • Starfall:While this sounds like Starfield, it’s also an alternative name for Iliac Bay, where, according to rumors, The Elder Scrolls is set to take place. The question is whether the risk of confusion with the space RPG would be too great here.
  • Redguard:This is the name given to the dark-skinned humans whose homeland is primarily the province of Hammerfell. However, we’ve already had an Elder Scrolls spin-off that included “Redguard” in its title. And unlike the main entries in the series, that game didn’t let us create our own character; instead, we controlled a Redguard named Cyrus.
  • Covenant:A military alliance with followers in Hammerfell and High Rock, among other places, bears this name; it has played a significant role throughout Tamriel’s history.
  • Numidium:An ancient artifact and a type of weapon of mass destruction built by the mysterious Dwemer. Several of these massive bronze constructs destroyed large parts of Hammerfell and High Rock during the Third Era.

Which of these will it turn out to be in the end? It might be a while before we find out—after all, The Elder Scrolls 6 might not be released until 2028. But at least we now have something new to speculate about.

However, not everyone was pleased with Asha Sharma’s visit to Bethesda. Outside the building, studio employees—who are members of the newly formed union—protested the layoffs, which also affected the Skyrim development team. Several long-time developers were let go. During Sharma’s visit, a giant rat—often seen as a symbol of unfair practices in labor disputes—was used as a sign of protest.
