The rumor that GTA 6 wouldn’t get a disc version sparked quite a bit of discussion. An email briefly gave fans hope, but it appears to have been a misunderstanding.
The start of pre-orders forGrand Theft Auto 6caused quite a stir. But not just because of the prices or bonuses. Many fans were upset, that thephysical edition
will not include any discs. Instead, you’ll be buying a box with a code.
Collectors can put GTA 6 on their shelves this way, but they’ll still have to download the full game. In the meantime, an email from Rockstar Support sparked hope that a proper physical version might be released later.
Now, an (unnamed) Rockstar source has confirmed toThe Hollywood Reporterhowever, that there will be no disc version of GTA 6,neither at launch nor at any later date. The (real) email was simply misinterpreted entirely.
An Email Raises Hope, a Rockstar Source Dashes It
According to this, the email from support wasn’t fake; it wassimply misinterpreted due to vague wording. You can find it hereX-post from GTA 6 Infoembedded here:
Rockstar Support confirmed that physical disc copies of GTA 6 will be available in the months following launch.
“You will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months.”

Someone submitted a support ticket to Rockstar asking about a physical version, which, according to the emailis supposed to become available in the coming months
. Many hopeful fans interpreted this to mean that a physical disc version would be released in the months following the launch.
According to the source, who also confirmed the email’s authenticity, however, support is by no means referring to the months following the November 19, 2026, launch.Rather, the physical version
refers to the box with the code mentioned above, which will be offered as a collector’s edition.
The phrase“in the coming months”
therefore refers to the period following the announcement, during which pre-orders for this version will be open.& nbsp;As things stand, the preload is scheduled to start on November 12– exactly one week before the official release. The email therefore likely means that delivery of thephysical version
will take place sometime during this period so that buyers can download the game.
Even if the vague wording here is a bit unfortunate, it makes perfect sense in light of the announcement.
The Trend Is Toward Digital
This might not be to everyone’s liking, but it certainly aligns with current trends. Whether it’s music, movies, or TV shows, most people now simply subscribe to and stream content rather than actively owning it in physical form. When it comes to gaming, there’s the added factor that open-world games, in particular, are getting bigger and bigger and consequently devour massive amounts of storage space. Even though there hasn’t been an official statement from Rockstar, it doesn’t sound like we should get our hopes up for a physical version anytime soon. GTA 6 is set to be released on November 19, 2026, initially only for PS5 and Xbox Series, with the PC version to follow later. There are also still some question marks surrounding GTA Online, as some bonuses are tied to it, but so far nothing is known about an update or even a sequel.
