With Patch 1.1.11, Ubisoft is releasing the final content update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows today. It includes new Templar enemies, a challenging challenge mode, and pirate costumes for Naoe and Yasuke.

It had been apparent for quite some time that, due to the current financial crisis at publisher Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Shadows would likely not receive updates and new content on the same scale as its predecessor, Valhalla.

Now it’s clear: Instead of the two years of post-launch content originally announced, today’s Update 1.1.11 marks the end of content support for Shadows after just over a year. Our Japan expert Jesko believes this hasty burial is actually undeserved for the Japan adventure, since Shadows was one of the best entries in the series in a long time.

Grand Finale with an Eye Patch

Fortunately, for the grand finale of Shadows, the developers have once again put together a massive content package to send the game off into retirement in style. Since the last story drops were rather sparse, thestory chapter “Black Tides” now offers a follow-up in terms of plot.

In the new quest series, two particularly notorious Templar killers are hunting down Naoe and Yasuke because they’ve thwarted the secret society’s plans in Japan one too many times. According to information from the AC analyst Access the Animus the two Templars are Eamon Hathaway and Nirmala—two operatives from the elite unit Black Cross.

To start the new story chapter, you must first complete the main story of Shadows as well as the two story dropsA Critical EncounterandA Puzzlement.& nbsp;Ownership of the Claws of Awaji expansion is not required.

But that’s not all: For particularly skilled Assassins, the Domains also introducea new challenge modewhere you’ll battle for unique gear in special Animus levels with increasing difficulty and more and more modifiers. In addition to minor bug fixes and interface tweaks, there are also newpirate outfitsfor Naoe and Yasuke to celebrate the upcoming launch of Black Flag Resynced.

When is Update 1.1.11 coming out?

The patch is expected to be released on June 16around 4:00 p.m.German time for all platforms—except the Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch release has been postponed by Ubisoft at short notice and is scheduled to follow at a later date.

Patch sizes for all platforms:

  • Xbox Series X/S: 26.1 GB
  • PlayStation 5: 10.01 GB
  • PC (Uplay): 21.69 GB
  • Steam: 10 GB
  • Mac: 9 GB
  • Nintendo Switch 2: 9.5 GB

What does the community say about the end of support?

In the comments below the announcement of the final patchOn Reddit, many fans are lamenting the quick end to the post-launch content for Shadows. Many—including our author Jesko—would have liked to see a second major DLC with even more story. After all, the story aspect in particular felt a bit underdeveloped to players in Shadows.

Overall, however, the team at Ubisoft Quebec has clearly proven that it can make great Assassin’s Creed games. Despite the current uncertainty at Ubisoft, users are wishing the developers all the best for the future. A wish we wholeheartedly share. You can read more on this topic in the link box above.
