More importantly: She popped her jaw back into place herself, just as Lara would.
If you play video games in English from time to time, the voice of British actress Alix Wilton Regan might sound familiar to you. She voices the female Inquisitor inDragon Age: Inquisition, Aya inAssassin’s Creed: Origins, Comm. Specialist Samantha Traynor inMass Effect 3and Alt Cunningham inCyberpunk 2077.
For her latest role, she’s holstering two pistols, because Alix Wilton Regan is the new voice of Lara Croft.
Full-Body Commitment for Tomb Raider
Regan lends her voice to the famous treasure hunter in the upcoming (second) remake of the very first game, *Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis*, and the new *Tomb Raider: Catalyst*.
As she explains in aninterview with Gamesradar, she spares neither her voice nor her body in the process, andgives it her all even in the fight scenes, even though she’s actually only supposed to be speaking. But that goes against her nature, she says:
The biggest challenge was having to hold myself back sometimes, because I throw myself into every scene with such energy. The other day, I even slapped myself in the face.
The scene apparently includes several punches and kicks, which Regan also performed. A minor accident occurred during filming:
Just as I was about to throw the punch—right at the moment I was going to land the hook—I literally hooked my own jaw, dislocated it, and really knocked it out of place… Well, it’s okay. This has happened to me before, but everyone on Zoom thought, “Oh, no, we killed Lara.”
It didn’t slow her down for long, though; according to Regan, there was only a 20-minute break. During that time, shepopped her jaw back into place herself, put some ice on it, and carried on. “They hired the right woman for the job,” Regan notes with satisfaction.
While the 14th installment in the main series, *Catalyst*, has only an approximate release window of 2027, things are looking better for *Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis*. It’s set to be released on February 12, 2027, and our colleague Dimi not only played it but also thought it had a lot of potential.
