Not much is known about the Code Veronica remake, but Capcom has already confirmed what perspective you can expect.

The upcoming remake ofResident Evil: Code Veronicawas announced at this year’s Summer Game Fest. Capcom has removed the word “Code” from the title and presented the game asResident Evil Veronica.

The first notable feature immediately caught the eye of fans of the original series. In the trailer, we see through the eyes of the protagonist Claire Redfield, which implies a first-person perspective:

However, Code Veronica was played in 2000—like the other main entries up toResident Evil 7—from a third-person perspective.

While newer entries allow players to switch between the two perspectives, such as inResident Evil Requiem, Capcom appears to have made a firm decision regarding the Veronica remake.

Resident Evil Veronica Remains Third-Person

Behind the scenes at Summer Game Fest, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi was on hand for a Q&A session. As reported by Gamesradar reports that he confirmed Resident Evil Veronica is played entirely in third person, even though the trailer suggested otherwise.

He also revealed that this specific sequence may look different in the final game. The primary focus of the first trailer was to build suspense, culminating in a surprise with the actual announcement.

Capcom has recently shown great flexibility when it comes to camera perspective. In Requiem, they even went so far as to suggest that both perspectives were “correct” ways to play. The horror sequences with Grace were meant to be played from a first-person view, while playing as Leon in third-person turned you into an action hero.

Although you also play as different protagonists in Veronica—specifically Claire and Chris Redfield—this apparently won’t affect the camera perspective. Hirabayashi remained tight-lipped about further details.

There’s also no news yet on the specific release date. We only know that the remake is scheduled for release in 2027.
