On June 9, the new “Road to Hell” event kicks off in Crytek’s extraction shooter. As part of this, the developers have announced the first real machine gun in Hunt—and the community is thrilled.

The currently ongoing Devil’s Trail event is coming to an end in Hunt: Showdown. Now, the developers at Frankfurt-based studio Crytek have revealed what’s next for their successful extraction shooter.

The title of the next event isRoad to Hell. Narratively, it’s supposed to pick up directly where Devil’s Trail left off—though, to be fair, the story in Hunt plays only a minor role anyway.

Much more interesting are the content and new weapons that Crytek has confirmed for Road to Hell, as the lineup includes a real heavyweight in the form of the Maxim machine gun. On top of that, there are plenty of new skins and a new story challenge, as usual. The trailer offers a first glimpse of what’s in store:

What the Road to Hell Event Is All About

The story of Hunt: Showdown is primarily told through the trailers and lore entries in the in-game compendium and plays hardly any role in the actual gameplay. In theevent announcement, we learn that the new event focuses on the soldiers of the renegade 26th Regiment under Commander Whitlaw.

After two scouts from the regiment went missing in Louisiana and Colorado (the story of the current event), the men of the 26th Regiment set out to find them. But the rescue mission quickly turns into a disaster …

Maxim MG, Hunter & Update 2.8: This Content Awaits You

  • Maxim 1895: Heavy machine gun that has been removed from its mount. High rate of fire, but low accuracy. Carrying the MG slows your hunter down by 25 percent; additionally, the weapon can overheat and must then be manually cleaned. The weapon cannot be added to your inventory.
  • 1890 Cavalry Rifle: Single-shot weapon with long-range ammunition for hunters who prioritize accuracy and stopping power. Muzzle velocity 380 m/s, ammunition 1/18 rounds, compatible with the Nimble Fingers perk.
  • New Legendary Hunters:Commander Whitlaw, Sergeant Riggins, The Foxhound, Dusty Ivo
  • New Story Challenge:Let the Gunshots Ring, centered around the hunter John Victor.
  • Update 2.8: With the start of the event, a new update is also being released, which changes the maps and introduces several balancing changes and fixes. A new location, the so-called Stronghold Compounds, now appears on the maps, where you can uncover the scouting cards already familiar from Devil’s Trail. Previous event mechanics such as Destiny’s Dial and tarot cards remain unchanged.

How is the community reacting?/h2

The Hunt community is reacting enthusiastically on YouTube to the announcement of Road to Hell. The well-known streamerRachtaZwrites:This has the potential to be the best event theme yet.

AThis is the best cutscene I’ve seen in the entire six years I’ve been playing Hunt.Androbtew8214writes:This is the best trailer so far.

Incredible work, Crytek. Well done!

But it’s not just the great production that’s causing a stir among players. The chance to finally fire a heavy machine gun is already making many Hunt fans’ trigger fingers twitch in the YouTube comments.

However, you can’t keep the machine gun permanently; the event weapon can’t be extracted from the rounds, even if you’re holding it during the extract. It would be a bit too overpowered to start the next round with a machine gun right away… an Avtomat will have to suffice.
