If you want to escape the summer heat with a great RPG, you’ll soon be able to do so again in Tainted Grail thanks to a free DLC.

The role-playing gameTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalonwas released in Early Access roughly two years ago and celebrated its final release a year ago. The developers are now commemorating this withan anniversary patch, as well as a free add-on, making the game worth another look for RPG fans.

Developer Questline and publisher Awaken Realms look in their Steam postnot only look back with nostalgia and thank the players, but also reveal what’s included in the free DLC and Update 1.2.3. Read all the important details here.

Here’s what’s in the free DLC

The free add-onBonus Content3 – Anniversaryhas been available since May 22, 2026, for PC (Steam, GOG), PS5, and Xbox Series. Since this is not a standalone expansion, you must own the main game. But then you’ll get tons of new, exciting content for free. Here’s exactly what’s included:

  • A new birthday quest:After completing the Cuanacht story, you’ll receive a mysterious invitation to a celebration in honor of King Arthur—but there’s more to it than meets the eye. Qrko is also happy to receive a matching birthday hat. You’ll get something here too, but you’ll have to earn it first…

  • If you complete the birthday quest, you’ll be richly rewarded. There arefive new armor sets, a wand, and a bow. So there should be something for every playstyle. According to the developers, all of these items also introduce new mechanics to further refine your approach and builds depending on your class (Warrior, Mage, Archer).

  • TheGone-Fishing Achievementapparently caused a few gray hairs for some completionists. The developers have therefore simplified the achievement—instead of hours of fishing, you can now simply pull out your wallet at the merchant. But those who have dedicated themselves to the tedious task won’t come away empty-handed. The developers promise a valuable fishing rod as a reward. Plus, you can now proudly equip yourself with the angler’s hat and fully immerse yourself in this aquatic passion.

  • Perhaps the DLC should be called “Angelfary” (pardon the pun), becausethe fishing minigame has also been revamped. So if you still want to catch all the fish yourself instead of buying them, it should now be a more enjoyable experience.

Even beyond the add-on, there are some improvements included in the latest patch.

These improvements are included in Update 1.2.3 for the main game

The patch notes list the changes from the free DLC, but also have a few additional tweaks up their sleeve.Mainly, quest bugs are being addressed, along with UI and general system optimizations. Read an excerpt here:

  • Players who complete the Lancelot Dungeon can now summon Sir Lancelot.
  • The Sarras DLC is no longer blocked if you skip the cutscene at a certain point.
  • The Price of HealingandOh Merry Mennow fail as intended under certain conditions, instead of simply crashing.
  • A bug in the quest progression inBrotherly Lovehas been fixed.
  • Quick-use items are now displayed correctly in the tutorial.
  • Gamepad button mappings are now displayed correctly in the tutorial.
  • Minor improvements have been added, particularly in combat with NPCs.
  • On PC, target FPS options have been fixed when not playing in full-screen mode, including issues with VSync.

The complete (English) patch notescan be found on Steam if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the post. The developer message is generally worth a look for fans, as it recaps the entire story and shares some cool fan art, among other things. Since its release, additional free DLCs have already been released, which you can also check out if you’re just now returning to the RPG.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is a dark first-person RPG in which you explore a fantasy realm inspired by the Arthurian legend. You can either follow the branching main story and make decisions, or lose yourself entirely in exploring the open world, including numerous side quests.

Through your skills and equipment, you also decide your own build and playstyle. You can read our verdict on this in the reviews linked above for the main game and DLC.
