Lego Batman: The Dark Knight’s Legacy is racking up strong scores on Metacritic, already setting a record.
Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter: Various iconic characters and worlds have already gotten their own LEGO video games. Batman has appeared in several games and even LEGO movies. Now the Caped Crusader returns inLEGO Batman: The Dark Knight Legacyand is soaring to new heights in the ratings.
The best Batman made of blocks?
The new LEGO game isn’t set to be released until May 22, but it has already received review scores—and they’re impressive. The Legacy of the Dark Knight is coming toan average score of 84. That might not sound spectacular at first, butBatman outperforms every single Lego video game released to date. In second place is 2022’s Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga with an average score of 82 points.
The ratings for the new Batman game become even more interesting when you consider its technical state. There’s still quite a bit to criticize there. In our test, we had to deduct 5 points due to bugs and FPS drops.
Of course, that’s bad news at first glance, but on the other hand, it means Batman still has unfulfilled potential. Without the deduction, it would have even scored an 88 in our review.
What do the reviews say?
But what exactly does Lego Batman do right, and what does it do wrong? Let’s see what the reviews say:
Despite a somewhat incoherent story and some technical flaws, Lego Batman manages to capture the spirit of Batman through its incredibly charming, varied, and truly entertaining gameplay.
Sean Campbell,IGN Benelux(PC)
The excellent combat and stealth systems, the entertaining open world, and the unmistakable reverence for theworld’s greatest detective
ensure that The Legacy of the Dark Knight approaches plastic perfection.
Leah J. Williams,ScreenHub(PS5)
The idea of drawing on the character’s classic films—without being bound to follow their respective storylines or even the order of their release exactly—creates a unique and incredibly rich narrative full of references to her universe, which fits perfectly with the game’s concept.
Diego Borges de Sa,Voxel(PS5)
There is plenty of praise for the open world—a major innovation for the Lego Batman series. The combat is also very well received. Opinions on the story are more mixed, but the many references and nods to Batman comics, movies, and games are a highlight in our review as well.
If you’re a fan of the Caped Crusader, it probably wouldn’t hurt to hold off on buying the game for a bit due to the technical issues on PC. In the meantime, we have even more exciting news for you in the box above!
