To celebrate the upcoming remake of Assassin’s Creed 4, Ubisoft has buried a real pirate treasure. But anyone who wants to join the hunt must first buy the clues—and in the end, only one person can win.
Buccaneers and privateers, take note: Ubisoft has buried a mighty treasure in the Caribbean. To celebrate the release ofAssassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the highly anticipated re-release of the acclaimed fourth installment in the series, the publisher has devised a special treasure hunt for fans. At the end of the journey,a massive haul worth $500,000 awaits you!
There is a catch, however: Anyone who wants to participate in the treasure hunt must first purchase the clues. Furthermore, the search could take several years—at least according to Ubisoft. We’ll tell you everything there is to know about the pirate treasure.
Gold Coins and a Crystal Skull
According to Ubisoft, the treasure hunt was created in collaboration with the French adventure startup Unsolved Hunts. The campaign, titled Gold & Crystal – The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway, promises all participants an “immersive pirate experience.”
According tocampaign website you don’t even necessarily have to have played Black Flag to participate successfully, because the puzzles “require above all historical knowledge, logic, common sense, and intuition.”
Hints cost extra
But there’s a major catch: Participating in the hunt for Edward Kenway’s treasure isn’t free. To join in, you first have to buy a clue pack. The cheapest, digital version costs around 35 euros. If you want a physical version of the documents, you’ll have to shell out 50 euros.
There are also additional tiers, each containing more extensive physical rewards, such as a wax seal or Edward’s pirate flag. The most expensive tier costs around 200 euros.
Also, you can’t set sail right away:The treasure hunt doesn’t start until November 9, exactly four months after the release of Black Flag Resynced. That said, Ubisoft and Unsolved Hunts seem quite confident about the difficulty of the puzzles—the companies estimate it will take two to five years for someone to find the treasure… Well, they might be underestimating the dedication of the community, which has already cracked numerous developer puzzles together.
In fact, Ubisoft and Unsolved Hunts are even encouraging you to tackle the puzzles as a team. At the same time, however, according to the organizers, only one pirate can ultimately claim the loot. So make sure you only set sail with crew members you trust. Otherwise, you might end up walking the plank instead of going home with treasure…
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be released on July 9, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and both Xbox Series consoles.
