Helldivers 2 fans are currently unhappy with developer Arrowhead. The new mechs and the handling of patches are to blame.

Since April 28, 2026, Helldivers 2 has introduced new War Bonds. As the name Exo Experts suggests, these are new mechs—combat robots designed to make life difficult for the bugs, bots, and squids.

However, the new Warbond hasn’t been well received, and Steam ratings have taken a significant nosedive. A similar sentiment arose when the decision was made to allow PlayStation accounts to play Helldivers 2 on Steam as well.

Arrowhead quickly backtracked at the time, but the current issues are less serious than those in May 2024.

The Problem with the Mechs

The two new combat walkers aren’t the first of their kind in Helldivers 2. However, the previous mechs and other vehicles weren’t part of a Warbond and thus, at least according to players’ complaints, weren’tbehind a 10-euro paywall.

This criticism can already be found inthe announcementof Warbond on Steam, which even promptedforum posts calling for a boycottfollowed. On Reddit, there aresimilar posts criticizing the fact that, for the first time, vehicles are available via a Warbond.

Note: The in-game currency required to unlock them, Super Credits, can be purchased in the store but also earned in-game. The latter, of course, requires a significant time investment.

In addition, some players, such as the Steam user behind the aforementioned boycott call, find it suspicious that the patchfor the new Warbond suddenly buffs the previously far too weak mechs. “They create a problem, then they sell the solution,” writes RenYi.

Steam Reviews Are Dropping

A look at theSteam reviewsfrom last week shows that during this period, there were only22 positive reviewsout of nearly 6,000 submitted. In the platform’s terminology, this corresponds to the description “mostly negative.”

Even looking at the last 30 days, Helldivers 2 has slipped to just 42 percent positive feedback. In absolute terms, however, this is nowhere near as bad as the PSN debacle. There, nearly 230,000 negative reviews were posted on Steam.
