The newly released Hytale bears striking similarities to the classic block-building game Minecraft. However, no one would have dreamed that it would be possible to play on a Hytale server via Minecraft.
The relationship with Minecraft is in Hytale’s blood. After all, the game originated from the Minecraft server Hypixel. Its operators eventually began developing their own game with a block-based world. More than seven years after its announcement and after various setbacks, Hytale has finally been released. And it took less than a week for someone to develop an incredible mod.
Incredulous amazement
Yes, Minecraft and Hytale are quite similar: both are set in a fantasy world built from destructible blocks, where we explore, gather resources, craft, and build. But Hytale is definitely its own game, developed from scratch. So the two games can’t really be compatible, right?
A modder named Sadat Sahib wants to prove the opposite, presenting his work just six days after the release of Hytale: crossplay between Minecraft and Hytale! First in screenshots, then in a video, Sahib shows how several characters move around in a shared world. Only some of them are playing Minecraft and others are playing Hytale:

The game is hosted on the Hytale server, which is why blocks can currently only be mined on the Hytale server. Also, only the immediate vicinity of the Hytale server is copied in Minecraft, and many features such as combat do not work properly. All in all, this is probably a very early prototype, but one that nevertheless impresses many players:
What the hell
How on earth can this possibly work?
The game has been out for a week!
Sahib wants to continue working on his project and enable the complete generation of the world in Minecraft or integrate fights – punching with fists already works. For him, however, the whole thing is just a kind of feasibility test without a fixed goal. So it’s doubtful whether it will ever really become a functional mod. In addition, the developers of the two games are unlikely to be particularly happy with such a project.
