EU5 drives fans crazy with its fiddly menus. The “Rossbach” update aims to fix this—and there are more changes to come.

Accessibility and Europa Universalis are very difficult to directly connect. Paradox’s global strategy simulation is simply too complex for a simple user interface. Anyone who wants to get to grips with it needs to have a love of fold-out info boxes and tables. And patience, because in the GlobalESportNews test, the strategy giant turned out to be still pretty broken. Patches are being worked on to fix this.

Europa Universalis 5 makes life unnecessarily complicated, even for experienced fans. This criticism has been discussed repeatedly since the release, and now the developers have come to their senses. The first major update, 1.1, titled “Rossbach,” brings changes to the UI and some mechanics.

As usual, there is a very detailed blog post about it on the Paradox forum. We’ve summarized some important announcements for you here the entire entry.

What the update 1.1 will bring

Mute pop-ups:  If you find it annoying that the game alerts you every time enemy pirates sail past on the horizon, you can now permanently mute this message (and others, of course). They will then not appear when something new happens. This can of course be reversed, but it should reduce the number of pop-ups if you want to.

Less army micromanagement: War and campaigns are important in EU5, of course, but that doesn’t mean everyone wants to control armies down to the last detail. To make commanding easier for you, there is now a feature that automatically balances your army flanks when new troops join.

Speaking of armies: EU4 now includes a feature that allows you to create blueprints for armies and fleets, in which you can assemble troops from individual regiments to suit your needs and then simply reuse them later.

Map modes: Another handy feature: after the update, you’ll have a choice of various new map filters that allow you to display the percentage of peasants or nobles, make rivers more visible, or get more information about the food situation.

Visible mercenaries: Hired troops are valuable, but until now they have been difficult to find in the menus. This will be improved in the update.

Missed a war? When your allies call you to war, this will now be displayed in a prominent pop-up. No more excuses for letting them down. A release date for Update 1.1 of Europa Universalis 5 is not yet known, but should follow shortly. In December 2025, it was said to be planned for early February. So it’s not far off. In addition to the changes mentioned so far, there will also be news about gameplay, such as the economy.
