The fastest hedgehog in video game history celebrates his birthday: Sega is celebrating the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog with a new trailer that looks back on the mascot’s eventful history. Since his debut on the Mega Drive in 1991, the blue hero has been synonymous with high-speed gameplay and a recognizable image that once made him the great rival of Nintendo’s Super Mario.

The video shows highlights from series milestones such as the classic 2D origins, the 3D debut Sonic Adventure, and the latest open-zone success Sonic Frontiers. You can see how the brand has evolved from its first pixelated levels to a global phenomenon that is now also enjoying success in the cinema.

Sega also promises a big anniversary program for 2026, with live concerts, exhibitions, and new merchandise collections.
