Marathon didn’t have an easy start and was so heavily criticized after its reveal that its release in September 2025 was canceled.

Since then, developer Bungie (Destiny series) has been working intensively on the extraction shooter and is now presenting the new playable classes (called Runner Shells in the game).

The mood of the community is undergoing an astonishing change: instead of criticism, this time the comments are filled with genuine anticipation, and the video has received 12 times as many thumbs up as thumbs down on YouTube.

One of the top comments reads: “I’m much more confident about Marathon now than I was a few months ago.”

The following Runner Shells can be seen in the video:

Destroyer (combat specialist with defensive barrier, missile systems, and thrusters)
Assassin (shadow agent with synth smoke and cloaking technology)
Recon  (information specialist with echo pulses, tracking drones, and holo-tracking)
Vandal (combat anarchist with extreme maneuverability and an impulse cannon)
Thief  (Procurement expert with optimized sights, loot drone, and grappling hook)
Triage (Field medic with healing drones, integrated reboot abilities, and combat buffs)
Rook  (looter for solo missions without equipment)

Find out more at the official blog post by the developers.
Marathon will be released in March 2026.
