After several delays, GTA 6 is finally set to be released in fall 2026. However, two insiders now disagree on the state of development.
We are starting the new year almost exactly as we ended the last one.& nbsp;GTA 6 is scheduled to be released this fall, but no one knows for sure how certain that is. Fans will have to continue to wait anxiously, as two industry insiders are currently causing confusion.
Jason Schreier and Tom Henderson have different information about the development status of the highly anticipated action game.
Schrödinger’s GTA 6 development status
Let’s start with Tom Henderson. Back in November 2025, the editor-in-chief of Insider Gaming was already certain that GTA 6 would meet its November 2026 release date. According to his information from Rockstar employees, all of the game’s content has been ready for a while (“content ready”).
According to this, only things like bug fixes and performance optimization would be missing to make GTA 6 ready for shipment this fall.
Tom Henderson just said on the Insider Gaming podcast that he doesn’t think GTA 6 will be delayed again and that it’s been content complete for a while now. The focus for the next year will be on making it as perfect and as stable as possible to avoid a Cyberpunk situation.

However, Jason Schreier, editor at Bloomberg, does not share this confidence. As he now writes in Button Mash podcast (timecode from 4:57), GTA 6 is, according to his information, not yet “content complete” – i.e., complete in terms of content.
But before you start rescheduling your annual vacation, let’s take a look at the entire quote:
That’s how Rockstar works, at least in recent decades, especially in the last decade with Red Dead Redemption 2. If you look at the history: they announced it for fall 2017, then it was postponed to spring 2018, then again to fall 2018, and finally it was released in October of that year.
So I wouldn’t be particularly surprised if the same thing happens this time around. It’s a big and complex game, and as far as I know, the content isn’t finished yet. That means the developers are still working on the final details, finalizing levels and missions, and checking what will ultimately make it into the game.
Normally, game development proceeds in such a way that features are completed first, then the content, and finally bug testing. However, these phases are not always clearly separated from each other, so that game content is sometimes added at the last minute.
Schreier does not want to commit to whether the 2026 release window can be met, but he has a much better feeling than last year with the original release date set for fall 2025.
Tom Henderson has since on social media about the discrepancy in the insider information. In his response, he confirms once again that, to his knowledge, GTA 6 is complete in terms of content. Perhaps the sources that he and Schreier had contact with have different definitions of the words “ready” and “complete.”
In the end, no one can say for sure how far along the development of GTA 6 really is. Rockstar is generally considered a perfectionist studio, so last-minute changes would not come as a complete surprise. Whether this will also affect the release is another question. For now, all we can do is wait and see.
