Creative Assembly seems to want to massively boost the player numbers of Total War, because a very interesting move is coming on December 4.

If you haven’t bought Total War: Warhammer 3 yet (perhaps because of all the controversy), but still have the predecessors Warhammer 1 and 2 gathering dust somewhere in your Steam library, then you’re in very, very lucky: Starting December 4, 2025, Creative Assembly will be giving away the massive Immortal Empires campaign from Warhammer 3. And for many fans, that’s the only reason to buy Warhammer 3 anyway. So let’s go through the details of the promotion.

What is Immortal Empires and why should I be excited?

Immortal Empires is the gigantic sandbox mode of Warhammer 3. You choose a faction and start on the largest Warhammer map ever – the continents from parts one, two, and three all combined into one huge campaign in which you lead your people to supremacy. Winning a single game takes dozens of hours of play, so there’s a lot to experience here.

How do I access the free promotion?

According to Creative Assembly, all you need is Warhammer 1 or 2 in your library, either via Epic or Steam. From December 4, an additional Warhammer 3 should appear in your library. However, this special version of Warhammer 3 does not contain the entire game, but only the Immortal Empires campaign and story prologue.

What do I get for free?

As part of the free promotion, you will get access to:

  • The Immortal Empires campaign, including all factions you have unlocked for it (more on that in a moment).
  • The prologue The Lost God, which serves as a tutorial and sets the story of the actual Warhammer 3 campaign in motion.

What don’t I get for free?

Understandably, some areas of the game are still only available to people who have purchased the main Warhammer 3 game. Here is a list of what you’ll be missing out on as a free player:

  • To get full access to all legendary lords, you must own the corresponding game. This means you won’t be able to access any of the new lords from Warhammer 3.
  • The story campaigns, including multiplayer and co-op campaigns from Warhammer 3, are also reserved for owners of the main game.
  • The Mirrors of Madness game mode.

However, you don’t need the main game to purchase legendary lords as DLCs, for example. Creative Assembly seems to want to expand Immortal Empires into a standalone platform for those who only want to play this game mode anyway.

Incidentally, the promotion is not limited to a specific day, but will run continuously from December 4. So, for example, you can keep an eye on the Steam Winter Sale, where Warhammer 2 is guaranteed to be reduced to $15 again, and get simultaneous access to the Immortal Empires campaign when you buy it. Pretty cool promotion, we think.
