A new chapter for a young PS5 epic

Since its release in early October, Ghost of Yotei has become one of the games that has won the hearts of many PlayStation fans in record time. The open-world Japanese adventure from Sucker Punch picks up where the cult hit Ghost of Tsushima set the tone years ago. Brutal duels, poetic landscapes, a tragic hero – all this has made Ghost of Yotei one of the most successful PS5 titles of the year. Over 3.3 million copies sold in just four weeks speak for themselves.

Now, the game’s growing universe is being expanded with a major free content update. Sucker Punch is once again using the official PlayStation blog to give a preview of what players can expect starting November 24. And one thing quickly becomes clear: this update goes far beyond the usual bug fixes and addresses several requests from the community.

“New Game Plus is here” – A mode that changes more than you think

A tougher path – with everything you’ve earned

The heart of the update is the New Game Plus mode. Once you’ve completed the main story, you can embark on Atsus’ journey once again – but under completely different circumstances. All weapons, techniques, and armor sets you’ve unlocked so far will carry over to the next playthrough.
Nevertheless, the adventure will be no walk in the park. Developers promise new, more challenging difficulty levels that will challenge even experienced samurai. In addition, fresh trophies await all those who take on this extended test.

Ghost Flowers, Merchants & New Cosmetic Treasures

A completely new addition is a currency that Sucker Punch calls “ghost flowers.” These can be exchanged at a new merchant for over 30 fresh cosmetic items, including additional talisman sets, new weapon colors, and alternative armor designs. For fans who like to tweak their character’s appearance, the update is likely to open up a small fashion dojo.

More power for your warrior

An expanded progression system has also been integrated: players can unlock an additional level of improvement for equipment.
Those who thought their favorite armor was already at its maximum level may be surprised.

Endgame replays, photo tool & settings that make life easier

Even without New Game Plus, Sucker Punch has given the base game a noticeable facelift. Post-game content can now be replayed, which should particularly please completionists. A new statistics page shows in more detail how well you actually did. At the same time, accessibility menus have been expanded, button assignments have been extended, and photo mode has been given a significant boost – including shutter speed, composition grid, and new filters.

“Thank you for your support” – and a promise for 2026

Finally, the developers expressly thank the community for the impressive launch. And they offer a preview that is sure to electrify the fanbase:
“We can’t wait to introduce Ghost of Yōtei Legends in 2026.”
This announces a cooperative multiplayer mode that will be released as a separate, free update, much like Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

It already seems as if Ghost of Yotei has only just begun to unfold its full potential. Fans can look forward to a year full of new stories, challenges, and perhaps even legends.
