Not all scenes from the novel series made it into the films, and the series now aims to improve on that.
The new Harry Potter series from HBO is currently taking shape, with filming already in full swing since July 2025. Harry (Dominic McLaughlin) and gamekeeper Hagrid (Nick Frost) were already out and about in 1990s London, and the Weasleys were seen preparing for their trip to Hogwarts.
Now HBO seems to be tackling a scene that didn’t make it into 2001’s The Philosopher’s Stone. Fans of J.K. Rowling’s book series, of course, know exactly what happens.
Vernon and his shotgun
Do you remember the Dursleys’ escape in the first Harry Potter movie? To escape the flood of letters from Hogwarts, Vernon quickly packs up his family to stay in a remote cabin on a rocky island. When Hagrid finds them, Vernon threatens him with a shotgun, which the gamekeeper simply bends out of shape.
The blockbuster doesn’t really explain where the father got the gun. To shed more light on this aspect, HBO relies on a scene from the books. Shortly before reaching the island, Vernon (Daniel Rigby) stops the car and buys the gun from a bearded man in the pouring rain (via Daily Mail).

Some keen observers will have noticed that the Harry in the pictures is not the new wizard Dominic McLaughlin.& nbsp;Presumably, one of his doubles is helping out here.
Filming is currently underway in Cornwall—including at Kynance Cove, a bay on the east side of Mount’s Bay in England. This can be seen in a long shot that shows the series’ set. Take a look:

When will the first season be released?
The release is currently planned for 2027. All seasons are to be released over a period of ten years, with each one adapting the respective book. Accordingly, the show will start with the film adaptation of the novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
All the major roles have now been cast, and the only question that remains is: Who will play Voldemort? According to current rumors, HBO is even considering an actress for the role.
Incidentally, a fan fiction based on the relationship between Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger is now set to be made into a film.
