With the price increase, Xbox is now also removing discounts on games and DLCs for Game Pass customers.

Xbox Game Pass has been revamped, increasing the prices of three of the four subscription tiers. But the changes don’t stop there.

Game Pass customers noticed that DLCs and in-game currency such as Call of Duty’s COD Points are no longer subject to a 10 percent discount. Only after inquiries from various news sites did Microsoft confirm that the exclusive discounts had been replaced by a new points system.

Points instead of discounts

The change was first noticed by Call of Duty players who missed the usual 10 percent discount on COD Points.

The  PureXbox blog also noted that this affects a majority of other games as well. The DLCs for most games included in Game Pass are currently offered without a discount for Game Pass customers. Only the Ultimate subscription still offers the discount in most cases.

The loss of this benefit was discussed in the announcement of the restructuring. The post merely refers to a “revised Xbox Rewards experience.”

Only upon request from sites such as IGN, the company confirms the elimination of discounts for Game Pass customers and refers to the points system:

This applies not only to a specific game, but to all games and DLC purchases. Instead of a discount on purchases, Ultimate and Premium subscribers receive 10 percent or 5 percent in points when purchasing select games and add-ons from the Game Pass library.

Ultimate members will continue to receive a 20 percent discount on selected games from the Game Pass library. In addition, all Rewards members will receive points when they purchase games and add-ons from the store, while Premium and Ultimate subscribers will receive even more points, namely 2x and 4x respectively.

Xbox’s statement refers to the revised points system that you have access to as a Game Pass subscriber. Depending on your Game Pass tier, you earn points when you purchase and play games and DLCs, which you can then redeem for Xbox gift cards or discounts in the store.

This ensures that customers who save money remain loyal to the Xbox ecosystem and spend the money they save on the platform.
