The new Borderlands 4 patch brings massive improvements for your exterminators, but important UI fixes are still missing.
A major patch for Borderlands 4 is in the starting blocks and is scheduled for release on October 2, 2025. While Gearbox has only officially teased many buffs for your exterminators, an accidental leak of the French patch notes already reveals the full extent of the changes: Amon, previously considered the weakest character, will be massively upgraded.
However, those hoping for other important improvements will have to be patient, as many of the fixes long requested by the community have not made it into the update. Gearbox is focusing entirely on character balance for the time being.
Amon gets 66 buffs
By far the biggest change in today’s update concerns the exterminator Amon: Although Gearbox itself has not yet published any official patch notes, the complete list of adjustments has been leaked via the French Borderlands website. According to this, Amon will receive 66 buffs and bug fixes for his three talent trees.
The highlights from the leak include:
- Massive damage buffs: The action skill “Onslaughter” receives a damage bonus of 78 percent. Other abilities such as “Fellfrost” and “Fulminating Fist” will be increased by 71 and 69 percent, respectively.
- Improved core mechanics: The maximum charge of “Scourge” will be increased by 50 percent, while the base damage of the whip will increase by 27 percent.
- Important bug fixes: A bug that prevented the passive ability “Primal Surge” from functioning correctly is being fixed. The targeting of “Crucible Axes” should now also work reliably.
While Amon is getting this overhaul, the extremely popular and powerful crit knife build remains untouched, according to the leaked information. Adjusting this overpowered mechanic is likely to cost the developers more effort than just changing a few values in the tables.
These fixes are missing
As welcome as the character balance buffs are, the other fixes are disappointing. Creative Director Graeme Timmins confirmed on X that a number of much-discussed issues did not make it into this week’s update. So you’ll still have to deal with the following annoyances:
- The “Mark as junk” bug, which often captures the wrong items in the inventory.
- The automatic sorting in the backpack, which constantly resets itself to “Sort by manufacturer.” .
- A bug in the firmware inspection in the bank that kicks you out of the menu completely.
- The lost loot machine, which still prioritizes rare items over common items.
According to Timmins, solutions for all of these issues are already in the works or firmly planned. However, they will only be part of “future patches,” for which there is no exact schedule yet.
The patch itself has been confirmed by Gearbox for today, Thursday, October 2. Timmins explained that the slight delay from the beginning of the week was due to the need for time for final adjustments and a “proper QA testing phase.” There will be no official patch notes in advance, as details may still change at short notice based on the test results.
