The indie hit Don’t Starve is familiar to every survival fan. A crowdfunding campaign is currently underway for a new installment as a tabletop game.

Don’t Starve is now 12 years old and still boasts an impressive 96 percent positive Steam reviews. Its co-op sequel, Don’t Starve Together, is also already 11 years old. Given this time span, fans are likely to be excited about a new announcement: a new installment is coming!

However, it will not be a video game, but a tabletop version, for which the original game developers are also back on board.
It will also feature new content, artwork, and lore, which is why the Kickstarter campaign officially refers to it as a sequel adventure. The new content was designed by the development studio Klei.
Our project is not only inspired by Don’t Starve—it is a whole new part of the adventure, in board game form.

What does Don’t Starve – The Board Game offer?

First things first: the project is already more than funded, with over $1.6 million raised on Kickstarter in just a few days. projects/glasscannonunplugged/dont-starve-the-board-game/description“ data-icon=”external”>Kickstarter raised over $1.6 million. The goal was $43,000. This means that the game will definitely be produced.

Buyers will receive a box with cards, miniatures, and dice. Here you can get a first impression on the YouTube channel Meeple University:

Like its predecessor, the board game will be a cooperative roguelike, but you can also play it completely solo. As survivors, you must work together to survive the dangerous Tim Burton-style world. The nights are particularly dangerous, so never forget to bring enough torches.

Anyone familiar with the video game will immediately find their way around: you explore, collect, craft, and die. You choose one of several scenarios and unlock new recipes, items, and buildings. One of these scenarios is relatively random-based and is therefore designed to offer replay value.

A round should take about sixty minutes. Don’t Starve – The Board Game will be released in numerous languages, including German, but at a later date. The English version is scheduled to be delivered from March 2027.
The game will retail for $79, or $129 for the deluxe edition with more miniatures and content. Euro prices are expected to be similar.
Those who support the campaign will receive bonus material, a lower retail price for the box, and digital skins that can be redeemed in Don’t Starve Together. You can find out more about the stretch goals and content on the official campaign page. You can support the project until October 23, 2025.
