Mount Chiliad has been haunting GTA fans since the release of the fifth installment. There are numerous theories, but the solution to the mystery is ultimately simpler than you think.

It’s hard to believe, but even after twelve years of GTA 5, the biggest mystery surrounding Rockstar’s golden boy has still not been solved. Or has it? At least that’s what one YouTuber believes, who claims to have solved the mystery of a supposed alien invasion once and for all.
Mount Chiliad is the towering mountain of San Andreas, where you can not only indulge in many activities, but also search for traces of extraterrestrials. One clue that has kept parts of the community awake at night since the game’s release is the Mount Chiliad mural.
The Mount Chiliad mural

The famous mural can be found in the cable car station at the top of the mountain. There have always been numerous theories about how this work of art should be interpreted. For a long time, it was assumed that it reflected the storyline of GTA 5 in a very cryptic way, but YouTuber Gator Keys says: “It’s much simpler than we thought.”

The three symbols at the bottom have a much more direct meaning than the far-fetched connections to the three main protagonists. The UFO on the left represents two of the three UFOs that can be found in the world. The jetpack on the right represents how to find them: by flying high. This connection is represented by the bottom horizontal line.

And that’s true, because you have to go pretty high to discover the unknown flying objects. But you don’t necessarily need a jetpack; a helicopter will do. You can see for yourself in Gator Keys’ video:

Several lines extend from the two symbols, all ending at the vertical center line. This center line is directly connected to the middle symbol – the cracked egg. According to Gator Key’s theory, this drawing represents us, the player. The center line represents our progress in the game.

This is precisely why the lines from the other symbols also end here. They are part of our journey through GTA 5. Once you have achieved 100 percent progress in the game – i.e., completed all achievements – the path is clear to the all-seeing eye at the top of the mural. If you now go to the top of Mount Chiliad, you will discover the third UFO.

This makes sense when you read the words on the viewing platform at the top of the mountain: “Come back when your story is complete.” This does not refer to the story campaign, but to the 100 percent game progress that can be achieved. Finally, you need to figure out the five smaller X symbols on the mural. These represent the six runes that you will find in the exact positions shown on Mount Chiliad. Five of them are white, one is red.
This represents the all-seeing eye on the mountain peak. The runes themselves give you clues as to how you can solve the mystery of the UFOs. For example, the X symbol on the left side of the mural resonates with a white UFO rune on the mountain. This is simply to show you that you can find one of the UFOs on the left side of the game map.

Other runes also tell you that you have to go to the mountain peak at night and in stormy weather to see the last UFO. However, you cannot touch or climb on it, because this UFO also has a deeper meaning. It bears the logo of the FIB, the GTA version of the FBI.

This proves that the authorities are indeed behind the UFOs and still have everything under control – even if the player has completed GTA 5 100 percent. The FIB has absolute control over the population, and the fact that the UFO ultimately remains out of our reach shows that we can’t change anything.

While there was hope for a long time that we would “unlock” a real alien invasion in GTA 5 by solving the mystery of Mount Chiliad, this interpretation suggests that all has been said and done. There is no jetpack and no way to get the last UFO out of the sky. With that, we are finally ready for GTA 6.
