Highlight of the week: gamescom 2025
This week is finally here: gamescom is opening its doors again and transforming Cologne into the Mecca of the video game world. Hundreds of thousands of fans will flock to the exhibition halls to try out new games, meet developers, and experience the bombastic stage shows.
It all kicks off on Tuesday evening with the big Opening Night Live, which is traditionally packed with trailers and world premieres and marks the start of five days of excitement.
From Wednesday onwards, the crowds will be flocking to the exhibition grounds – this year, over 1,000 exhibitors and far more games than ever before have been announced.
From the biggest AAA titles to the most charming indie gems, there’s something to discover around every corner. In the FYNG show, we’ll be showing you brand-new trailers and gameplay demos – including some genuine world premieres that will be seen for the first time anywhere in the world. In the pre-show, Michi Obermeier will also give you an exclusive look behind the scenes of our trade fair studio. Whether you’re there in Cologne or watching from home, you can look forward to a packed program, exciting panel discussions, developer interviews, and a surprise or two.
gamescom 2025 is going to be a celebration – and we’ll make sure you don’t miss a thing!

- Stick It to the Stickman (Early Access): If you’ve always wanted to climb the career ladder with your fists, this is the game for you. In this wacky roguelite brawler, you literally work your way to the top as a lowly office worker – by fighting your way through hordes of annoying colleagues. Thanks to physics-based combat and absurdly exaggerated weapons (from staplers to chainsaws), stick figures fly through the open-plan office.
- Caravanners: Co-op Open World Camping (Early Access): Virtual camping adventure for explorers: In this relaxing open-world simulation, you start with a rickety truck and an empty caravan – and turn it into your dream home on wheels. Together with up to three friends, you travel through a huge, freely explorable world, from dense forests to idyllic lakes to snow-capped mountains. During the day, you take on jobs, earn money, and upgrade your equipment; in the evening, you set up camp, roll out the awning, and roast marshmallows over the campfire.

- Sword of the Sea: The latest work from the creators of Abzû and Journey takes you to a surreal and beautiful world of endless sand dunes, half-sunken ruins, and glowing ocean waves. As a mysterious hero on a so-called hoversword—a floating sword that you ride like a surfboard—you glide through the landscape at breathtaking speeds. Your mission: to bring a long-dry sea back to life. Sword of the Sea combines the meditative atmosphere of Journey with the action of a skateboarding game.
- Discounty: As the newly appointed manager of a small supermarket in the harbor town of Blomkest, you have to prove that you can do more than just stock shelves. In this charming store simulation, you not only manage the product range and serve customers at the checkout, but also immerse yourself in the life of the village community. You design your store according to your own ideas, make deals with suppliers, and gradually expand the product range.

- VOID/BREAKER (Early Access): Jump into the simulation, shoot everything to smithereens, die, repeat! This ultra-fast sci-fi shooter with roguelite elements throws you into an endless battle against an all-powerful AI. Trapped in a digital loop, you must fight your way out with brute force – literally, because the arenas are completely destructible. Build absurd guns from modular weapon parts that break through walls with powerful explosions and reduce enemies to rubble.

- Herdling: In this fairy-tale adventure, you accompany a herd of cuddly mythical creatures on their journey across dangerous mountain paths. As a young shepherd, it is your job to guide your herdlings – a colorful mix of lovingly designed creatures – safely through fantastic alpine landscapes. You must skillfully solve environmental puzzles and make sure that none of your clumsy charges fall behind or into a ravine.
- BULLET YEETERS: Jetpacks, big guns, and a living room as a war zone! You play tiny soldiers who battle each other in ordinary household environments. What is a cozy living room for humans becomes a huge battle arena for you: You fly around the tile table with your jetpack, engage in heated firefights between the rustic oak wall unit and the potted plant from the discount store, and blow the furniture to pieces with rocket launchers.
- Waterpark Simulator (Early Access): Summer, sun, swimming fun – and you’re right in the middle of it all as the manager of your own water park! In this first-person business simulation, you plan, build, and run a large water park. From fast-paced tube slides to wave pools and a children’s splash area, you design attractions that will draw visitors in droves. You place snack stands for fries and ice cream, hire lifeguards and cleaning staff, and set ticket prices.

- Worldwide Rush: Global transportation planning for professionals. As the CEO of a transportation company, you start out small in one region, but soon your network spans entire continents. You build airlines, railways, bus networks, and more to satisfy the growing desire to travel among the world’s population. You compete against AI opponents and have to make smart decisions: Which routes are profitable? What new technology will you invest in next—high-speed trains, supersonic aircraft, or perhaps a futuristic hyperloop system?
Those were the most exciting Steam releases of the week – even if gamescom 2025 is currently overshadowing everything else. But maybe there will be a surprise release or two?
However, there’s a lot more going on in August. We’ve put together a video summary of other highlights you may have missed this month or shouldn’t miss next week.
