A new Souls-like game beckons – and flexes its technical muscles

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is nearing release and is attracting attention primarily for its technical prowess. The title from Chinese studio Leenzee Games not only promises a dark Souls-like atmosphere, but also offers several graphics modes on PS5 and PS5 Pro – depending on your preference for sharpness, frame rate, or a balanced mix.

While many gamers are looking forward to the challenge that Wuchang has in store with its world inspired by the late Ming Dynasty style, it’s now also clear that the title is breaking new ground in terms of technology. The PS5 Pro in particular is being pushed to its limits. So if you have a 120 Hz-capable screen, you can even take advantage of an expanded range of modes.

The game will be released on July 24, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. Developer Leenzee and publisher 505 Games are focusing on smooth gameplay – but not at the expense of graphics. And that’s where it gets interesting.

A problem plant is growing everywhere: caution is also advised with graphics modes

Choosing the right mode is not just a matter of taste – it can be decisive for gameplay. Three options are available on the standard PS5:

  • Quality mode with 30 FPS for visually demanding gamers
  • Balanced mode with 40 FPS – but only on 120 Hz displays
  • Performance mode with a stable 60 FPS for smooth combat

Things get even more exciting on the PS5 Pro, which unleashes a whole new set of reserves:

  • Quality mode with 60 FPS
  • Balanced mode with a brisk 70 FPS
  • Performance mode with an impressive 80 FPS

This means that anyone with a fast TV or monitor can really benefit from the extra power of the PS5 Pro – provided the setup is right.

Even though the game doesn’t promise any revolutionary innovations in the Souls-like genre, Wuchang stands out positively with its detailed mode options. This should be a decisive factor for fans of smooth animations and fast reactions. It remains to be seen how the modes feel in the final game – because good numbers alone do not make for a perfect experience.p>
