12 years of searching for Bitcoin: The hunt for €732 million in a landfill is now a video game on Steam

The story of an unlucky man from Wales is already getting its own documentary, and soon you’ll be able to play the million-dollar hunt on Steam.

What would you do for 732 million euros ? Welshman James Howells was an early adopter of the Bitcoin hype and would now be a multi-millionaire. However, the hard drive containing his private key to 8,000 Bitcoin is now lying in the municipal landfill in Newport, South Wales.

Twelve years ago, an unprecedented search began in the trash.
From rummaging through dirt to using robot dogs to attempting to buy the landfill site – you can find the whole story at GlobalESportNews Tech.

Under the title One Man’s Trash, on Steam on July 23, 2025. This is a very special simulator. In this game, you are the guy looking for 8,000 Bitcoin in a junkyard.

With a souped-up vacuum cleaner, you dig tunnel after tunnel through mountains of dirt and trash in search of the hard drive. Along the way, you’ll come across rare finds alongside car wrecks and other junk.

There are ancient relics, lost consoles, and precious collectibles to discover. You can sell your loot to purchase upgrades for your vacuum cleaner or expand your inventory.

In the depths of the trash heap, you’ll also find all sorts of bizarre things, a kind of sandworm crosses your path, and Aladdin’s magic lamp waits behind the next wall of junk.

The project was implemented by a single developer under the name Jony Pazu Games in the Unreal Engine. One Man’s Trash is a single-player game only.
The price of One Man’s Trash at release is currently unknown. You can currently download a free demo on Steam and try your hand at hunting for millions in the trash.
In the game, you’ll probably find what you’re looking for faster than James Howells did in real life. His efforts to buy the junkyard were rejected by the city council. Howells’ legal attempts failed.
