Shortly before the release of the new Sims add-on, Enchanted Nature, the developers are releasing another update for the base game.

It’s now common practice to offer free content for the base game in addition to paid Sims add-ons. This is also the case with the Enchanted Nature expansion pack, which will be released on July 10, 2025.

While the expansion focuses on the introduction of fairies and life in nature, the free update includes several upgrades for the build mode. And best of all, unlike the expansion, the free update is already available.

Here’s an overview of all the new features:

  • Roof plants: Who hasn’t wanted a bush on their house? Now you can green your roofs and get a little closer to your dream of having your own hobbit hole. You can find the roof plants in build mode under “Roof Sculptures.”
  • Better overview of your inventory: Thanks to new filters and a multi-select tool, you can finally organize your Sims’ inventory. Among other things, you can filter by newly added items, price, or rarity.
  • More clarity when collecting: Your notebook now updates itself when your Sims discover new things. There is also a new interface for all collectibles in your household.
  • Glass walls and roofs:Sims fans have been waiting a long time for this, but now there are finally not only floor-to-ceiling windows, but also real glass walls and roofs. Nothing stands in the way of your greenhouse or winter garden. Now you can sit in the glass house and no one can throw stones at you (because there is no feature for that yet).

You can see what this looks like in the official Sims tweet:

The community is thrilled

The highlights of the update are, of course, the glass walls and the roof gardens. There are countless enthusiastic comments under the tweet embedded above:

This is so inspired by The Sims 3, and it makes me very happy.

I’m going to go crazy with the Victorian greenhouses, I just know it.

Finally! I don’t have to use windows anymore and pretend they’re walls!

It remains to be seen whether fans will be just as enthusiastic about the new Sims add-on. We’ve already played for a few hours and lived as a fairy in nature.

What do you think of the free update and the new expansion pack? Will you be rushing to build your glass house dreams, or are you no longer interested in The Sims? What would it take to get you back into the life simulation game? Let us know in the comments!
