TSM and Gen.G have broken the record for the longest VALORANT match. In the first round of the VCT Stage 3 Challenger 2, one match went 44 rounds.

In Thursday’s North America Stage 3 Challengers 2 match, VALORANT teams TSM and Gen.G set a record in professional play. On the map

Split, the teams needed an incredible 44 laps to determine a winner. The previous record was 40 rounds.

TSM already had their backs against the wall in the match after losing the first map bind 10:13. On Split, the scores and the game then got a little out of control. In the end TSM won the map with an amazing score of 23:21, breaking the record for most rounds needed in a professional game and also averting elimination.

That wasn’t the only record broken, though. Nicholas “NatureE” Garrisson also managed to break the record for most frags with 49 kills on Kay-O. The previous record was held by Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk. The player from the 100 Thieves was able to record 48 kills in one match on 11 July. The match was over much quicker with a score of 13:10.

Overtime in competitive shooters has already been discussed several times in the past. Since not everyone is a fan of the sometimes lengthy overtimes. CS:GO pro Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander from Astralis, for example, suggested changing the format slightly. According to him, the teams should switch sides every round.

While the overtime discussion has not really been addressed in VALORANT so far, games like the duel between TSM and Gen.G will certainly get it going.
