Vales of Amoril is a new continent created by players. The screenshots of it are making jaws drop collectively right now. We’ve played inside.

Minecraft is constantly creating astonished faces. Over the past ten years, the community has repeatedly caused a stir with massive building and map projects. For example, by trying to recreate the whole of Middle Earth.

Now a new project has once again attracted the interested eyes of the public. A new map has been published on Planetminecraft for download. This is a large, wild area. Here you will find snow-covered mountains, between which wild rivers flow and on whose slopes numerous green firs grow. The special thing about it is that the map looks incredibly realistic on the screenshots.

Just take a look at these pictures here:

At first glance, no one would probably guess that this is a map from Minecraft. The block game that was already ridiculed by some players for its simple look when it was released ten years ago.

Today, of course, we know that the brick look is simply part of Minecraft, even if mods provide even more realistic textures. What’s more, Minecraft can now even do ray tracing.

How was the map created?

This new map was created without any graphical gimmicks. The fact that the photos look so realistic is simply due to the excellent work of the creator. Responsible for the map is a single person registered on Planetminecraft with the nickname “qwryzu”.

The person explains here that Vales of Amori (the name of the new continent) is their first major project in four months. Before that, qwryzu gained experience building smaller maps and tried out a few techniques there that were later used in Vales of Amori. Using the Minecraft construction kit to generate landscapes that look so natural is a lot of work and requires an extremely good intuition.

But qwryzu was not completely on his own. To create the map, the person also used world generation software. World Machine, World Painter and Chunky are mentioned here. In addition, the designs of individual objects such as trees also go back to other creators, which qwryzu names on the page.

Should you download this?

The map is completely free. You can simply download it via this link here. You just have to unzip the file and put it into the right folder. Just search for the following term with Windows+R: %appdata%/.minecraft/saves/.

When you start a new world in single player in Minecraft, Vales of Amori should be displayed. But we can already tell you: as soon as you are on the map, everything looks much less impressive.

Up close, Minecraft remains Minecraft. You get the best added value when you fly into the sky or climb to the top of a mountain. But even then, you have to switch up the wide-angle view to really get an overview of the map. That can put a strain on medium-size hardware.

So sieht die Karte aus, wenn ihr wirklich darauf spielt. Das sieht schon mehr nach Minecraft aus.

The map is always in creative mode. So you don’t get an extraordinary challenge here. But at least you can build on it a little and embellish or add to the map as you see fit. A small log cabin by the river, for example, would be quite atmospheric.
