After thousands of fans requested it, Lego now has some excellent news for Godzilla fans.

In 2024, we reported that a popular fan model of Godzilla had made it to the review phase of Lego Ideas. Now, the company has completed the review phase and officially announced via video that it is working on a set based on the design for the popular sci-fi lizard.

What happened? In December 2023, user MattE720 submitted a design to the platformLego Ideas. Barely a year later, he reached the important milestone of 10,000 supporters, qualifying the model for the review phase.

This is where Lego decides which designs will be used as the basis for future Ideas sets and will therefore appear in stores in a revised version. The third phase in 2024, which also included Godzilla, has now been completed. A total of 54 designs were reviewed, but only four made the cut.

Godzilla is in: The winners have been announced, one of them is Godzilla MattE720 should be particularly pleased, as he submitted an older version of the model back in January 2021. The reworking was definitely worth it.Also going into development:the Campingtrip, the TinTin rocket and the castle from Downton Abbey You can find a short video about the designs at Lego.

What criteria must be met?Lego has published a list of points that will play the biggest role in deciding the winners.

  • Sets that are currently on the market
  • Products that are already in development
  • Licensing opportunities
  • Production capacity
  • Construction quality
  • Feasibility
  • Playability
  • Expected demand

What’s happening now: Lego is now using the design and revising it to meet the company’s specifications. The points listed above are likely to play a major role in this process. Ultimately, the product must be launched in a way that is as profitable as possible for Lego as a company.

With revisions, it is always exciting to see which elements of the design will disappear and which new ones will be added. For example, the laser beam may be omitted from the retail version because it requires different production conditions or does not fit into the current concept. At the same time, it is conceivable that you will receive a small sign as well.

That’s not all the news from the colorful world of building bricks. Lego recently surprised everyone with the announcement of a new Simpsons set that lets you build Krusty Burger’s for the first time.
