The makers of Star Wars Squadrons are remaking Dead Space. EA now already provides important info on microtransactions and loading times of the project.

Dead Space returns. But not with a sequel, instead there is a remake of the very first part. The makers of Star Wars: Squadrons are responsible for this: Motive Studios. And their senior producer Phil Ducharme now provides IGN with exciting new information on aspects such as loading times and microtransactions.

Without loading times by USG Ishimura
The Dead Space remake is said to be entirely without load times. According to Ducharme, this is not only thanks to the NextGen technology – the remake will be released exclusively for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S – but also to the Frostbite engine. After all, Dead Space is being developed from scratch. Old assets are not being used at all.

Ducharme explains that the atmosphere in particular should benefit from this circumstance and that the team is working on making the immersion even denser for the player:

“[The faster SSDs of new consoles] mean that there will be no loading times. There won’t be a moment where your game experience is interrupted, where we interrupt the camera movement. You can play seamlessly from the start screen to the credits.”

The original Dead Space didn’t come without load times, but sometimes concealed them quite cleverly with lift rides or doors that took a while to open. There were also frequent loading screens – such as after each completed level – that interrupted the entire gameplay.

No microtransactions like in Dead Space 3

No microtransactions in the Dead Space remake: At the same time, the remake of Isaac Clarke’s first survival battle against the Necromorphs is to dispense entirely with real-money purchases. In Dead Space 3, microtransactions and the (optional) purchase of premium items were among the biggest points of criticism.

However, Electronic Arts has probably drawn consequences from the bad mood on the part of fans and the press that resulted from this:

“We are also learning from past mistakes such as the microtransactions, which we will not have in this game, for example. “

The original should be honoured and improved

Same, but different: Last but not least, Ducharme provides a few details about the differences between the original and the remake. The intention is to reproduce the story faithfully, but also to refine it.

According to Campos-Oriola, this is done by adding ideas from the expanded Dead Space universe to the remake – for example, from the sequels or the animated films and TV series.

The most important things about the Dead Space remake

The Dead Space remake currently has no release date, but is set to be released exclusively for PC and NextGen consoles. So far there is a first teaser trailer for the remake, but it doesn’t show too much about the game yet:

What do you think of the Dead Space remake: Are you looking forward to the return to the USG Ishimura or are you satisfied with The Callisto Protocol for now? Let us know in the comments.
