At least one game has been confirmed that can be played with a standard mouse in combination with a Joy-Con.

The mouse feature has been rumored since the teaser for Nintendo’s Switch 2 in January. In April, the Japanese company confirmed that yes, the Joy-Cons can also be used seamlessly as a mouse.

In a video from Koei Tecmo about Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition, the manufacturer shows that the game can also be controlled with a standard USB mouse.

  • The video is commented on by producer Michi Ryu.
  • He stops the game and plugs a USB mouse into a slot on the Switch 2.
  • A pop-up confirms that a mouse has been connected to the console.
  • Ryu continues playing with both the mouse and the left Joy-Con.

Particularly interesting: The producer switches back and forth between mouse control and controller without any problems.

Our editor Linh also confirmed that this works seamlessly in a hands-on report on the Switch 2 from April. There, he played Metroid Prime 4: Beyond using both the controller and the Joy-Cons’ mouse function.

Why this is important: We don’t yet know how the Nintendo Switch 2 will work with the Joy-Cons as a mouse or whether this will become uncomfortable after a while. Support for a conventional USB mouse could be a solution for long gaming sessions – if games support this across the board.

Even the Switch 1 has mouse support

Many people don’t know that you can already connect a mouse and keyboard to the Switch 2’s predecessor.

The problem, however, is that only a handful of games support this. These include, among others:

  • Doom
  • Doom 2
  • Factorio
  • Quake
  • Quake 2
  • Star Wars: Dark Forces – Remaster
  • Turok
  • Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion: Remastered

More mouse support for the Switch 2?

Mouse and keyboard support for the Switch 1 seem more like a side note; we’re likely to see more of this on Nintendo’s new console.

Nintendo published a video in its Nintendo Today app showing someone interacting with the user interface, according to The Verge

One of the most important features of the Switch 2 requires your phone number.

It remains unclear whether a standard mouse will be usable everywhere with a Joy-Con controller.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5, 2025. It will cost €470, or €510 in a bundle with Mario Kart World.
